EG59126 CASE# 25-80726 OF COLLISION 12/15/25 15:38 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On 12/15/2025 at approximately 1547 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking two-vehicle collision at the intersection at 108th Ave SE and SE 180th Street, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. Upon arrival, I observed airbag deployment and significant mechanism of injury to Unit#1 and therefore requested the Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) respond for evaluation. RRFA later arrived on scene and treated the involved parties. RRFA released all involved parties at the scene. While on scene, I collected the involved parties driving documents and their independent recollection of events leading up to the collision. The driver of Unit#1 said he and his passenger were traveling northbound in about the 18000 block of 108th Ave SE just south of the intersection of SE 180th ST in lane 2 of 3. The driver of Unit#1 stated he was traveling directly behind Unit#2 and saw as the controlled intersection displayed a yellow light for his direction of travel. The driver of Unit#1 did not see brake lights emitting from Unit #2 and believed Unit#2 was going to continue into the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 observed Unit#2 instead come to a stop at the intersection. The driver of Unit#1 stated that he simply was unable to stop in time and subsequently collided with the rear of Unit#2 causing significant damage to the front of Unit#1. The driver of Unit#2 said she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and was also traveling northbound in about the 18000 block of 108th Ave SE just south of the intersection of SE 180th ST in lane 2 of 3. While Unit#2 was stopped at the controlled intersection, the driver of Unit#2 stated that Unit#1 collided with the rear of Unit#2 causing moderate damage to the rear of Unit#2. 1 checked the operation of the brake lights on Unit#2 which I confirmed were operational and functioned as normal. Based on the above statements, 1 determined that the Driver of Unit#1 (Satterstrom) is the proximate cause for the collision due to inattention causing a collision. Satterstrom should have been paying closer attention to the movement of traffic in front of him. The driver of Unit#1 (Satterstrom) was not paying attention to traffic in front of him. Satterstrom violated Renton Municipal Code (RMC) 10-12-25 -Inattentive Driving which is defined as any person to drive a motor vehicle on any public highway, street, alley, or road in an inattentive manner in the City of Renton. "Inattentive manner" in this section means a lack of: 1) attentiveness required to safely operate the vehicle under the prevailing conditions, including, but not limited to, the nature and condition of the roadway, the weather conditions, the presence of pedestrians, the presence of other traffic, or by the driver focusing or directing the driver's attention to something other than driving the motor vehicle; or 2) attentiveness that would permit the driver of a motor vehicle to observe anything resting on, or traveling on, or entering the roadway in time to take appropriate action as circumstances require. (Ord. 4462, 7-25-94, eff. retroactive to 7-1-94; Ord. 5635, 11-14-11). Unit#1 had to be towed due to extensive damage. Unit#2 was able to be driven away without further incident. An exchange of information was provided to all involved parties. I cited Satterstrom via mail for Inattention causing a collision. Satterstrom qualified for the City of Renton Youth Traffic Court (YTC) and was made aware of the details via a YTC business card.
