Subject: Renton Transit Center - ADA Benches Change
CAUTION: This email originated from outside the City of Renton. Do not click links, reply or open attachments unless you know the content is safe.
Hi Jill,
Hope all has been well with you.
I wanted to reach out to let you know that our ST safety/security folks flagged an issue with the benches in the ADA areas (only 2 of them) on the Renton Transit Center bus platforms.
The 1st image below shows what they currently are planned to look like. They flagged the fact that there’s no middle armrest and that it would allow for people to sleep on the bench.
They requested that we change the design to a bench with middle armrests to prevent sleeping, such as the 2nd image below from our Eastlink stations. Note that I had lengthy discussions
with our accessibility team who also talked with her contact at the U.S. Access board to make sure these benches are still ADA compliant. Through these discussions and our project
architect’s confirmation, the swapping of the benches in these locations would meet ADA requirements.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this bench change.
Thanks!
