Unless otherwise noted,the following occurred within the city limits of Renton, county of King, state of
Washington.
On 03/06/2026, 1 was working as a uniformed police officer for the city of Renton.At approximately 1839
hours, I was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of N 3rd St and Logan Ave N. Portions of
my involvement in the incident were captured on my department-issued bodycam. Any statements referred to
have been paraphrased and summarized.
When I arrived on scene, unit 2 was blocking southbound lane 1 just south of the intersection. Unit 1 was in
the south parking lot of Renton Memorial Stadium, 405 Logan Ave N. Its driver(and sole occupant) provided
the following recap of the collision:
He was driving northbound in lane 3 (left-turn lane).At the dispatched intersection, he set-up to
complete a u-turn to travel southbound. In the very beginning stages of his turn, he was struck by unit
2. It should be noted that he voluntarily took responsibility for what occurred.
I spoke with the driver(and sole occupant) of unit 2. He advised the following:
He was traveling southbound in lane 2. As he approached the dispatched intersection, he saw unit 1 in
the parking lot of Renton Senior Activity Center, 211 Burnett Ave N. Suddenly, unit 1 quickly
accelerated to try and merge into southbound traffic. At this point, he had already crossed through
the intersection, so he had to swerve to the right in an effort to avoid any collision. Ultimately, he was
unable to avoid it, and his vehicle's rear driver's side quarter panel struck the front driver's side corner
of unit 1.
The stories from both drivers vary significantly. Regardless, based on his own admission, I believe the driver of
unit 1 to be the proximate cause of the collision. Whether he was making a U-turn or entering a busy
thoroughfare from a parking lot, it is his responsibility to yield to oncoming vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
His failure to do so is what caused this collision.
I captured photos of the involved vehicles and uploaded them to the case file via AXON Capture. I provided
both drivers with my business card and the case number for their records.

I opted to cite the driver of unit 1 for violation of RCW 46.30.020—operating motor vehicle without liability
insurance.The driver did not provide me with proof of insurance and went so far as to admit to me that he
was not insured.
