The following is documentation of an oral order given by the Engineer per WSDOT Specification 1-04.4.
The Contractor shall install four #8 conductors from the junction boxes to the tall roadway luminaire poles. In the tall roadwayluminaire poles one fuse kit
shall be installed between each #8 conductor and the associated conductors in the two pole and bracket cables. In the tall roadway luminaire poles one
pole and bracket cable shall be installed to each of the luminaire fixtures.
Please provide a cost proposal for the additional work to install additional #8 conductors, additional fuse kits, and additionalpole and bracket cables for
incorporation into a future change order.

Activity
Question Question from Alan Guthmiller Golden Gate Electric on Wednesday, Jan 8, 2025 at 03:41 PM PST
Renton Standard Plan 119 directs us to install one sec fuse kit for each current carrying conductor entering from the line side
of the pole. From what we can tell on the one-line drawings pages 210-211 both head are fed off the same circuit. The
standard situation is if the lights are fed from the same circuit we daisy chain the fixtures and the top fixture would be the end
of the circuit on the load end. We are already having a difficult time with the pole and bracket #10 wire in the small heads due
to the large drivers. We don’t believe two pole and bracket cable will fit in the lower head. We may be able to do the daisy
chain connection in the large top head but that would add 25 feet of pole and bracket cable.
Please advise on what you have done in the past when this problem has been encountered with the King heads and large
LED drivers. Please provide direction as it pertains to this project.

We have further reviewed this RFI with the City of Renton and their designer and have confirmed the following.
Per General Note 7. on Sheets 200-209 "All conduit and luminaire wiring between pole and junction box shall be installed per
City of Renton Standard Plans 117.1A and 119. Conduits shall be 2" unless noted otherwise."
Per City of Renton Standard Plan 119 a pole and bracket cable is to be installed between the luminaire and the two "fuse kits
quick disconnect 3 AMP in line". Since there are two luminaires to be installed two pole and bracket cables are to be installed
which means that four fuse kits need to be installed. These four fuse kits result in four #8 wires being needed between the
pole and the junction box.
The comment in this RFI that the number of current carrying conductors entering from the line side of the pole driving the
quantity of fuses and therefore the quantity of pole and bracket cables is not accurate because the plans indicate the wiring
between the pole and the junction box is to be per City of Renton Standard Plan 119 not elsewhere in the plans.

City of Renton Standard Plan 119 requires that one fuse kit be installed per current carrying conductor. There are four current
carrying conductors (two per pole and bracket cable multiplied by two pole and bracket cables (one for each luminaire fixture)
required.
City of Renton Standard Plan 119 requires that the pole and bracket cable be installed between the fuse and the luminaire
fixture without splices, therefore two pole and bracket cables are required.
The City of Renton has determined that two #8 wires shall be added between the junction boxes and the handholes in the
poles.
