"Seam-lite" is used in special applications to ensure a leak resistant pipe barrel. "Seam-lite" is used on low pressure and gravity flow piping systems and is available on all our lockseam pipe products. (Separate brochure available). CORRUGATED METAL PIPE (CSP, CASP, CAP) Corrugated metal pipe is used extensively in flood control, drainage and sewer systems because of its economic value, strength and durability. The pipe is usually fabricated in 20- foot sections; however, sections in other lengths are available. The available diameters range from 6 inches to 96 inches and the available wall thicknesses are .052 inches (18 gauge), .064 inches (16 gauge), .079 inches (14 gauge), .109 inches (12 gauge), .138 inches (10 gauge) and .168 inches (8 gauge). The pitch of the corrugation is two and two-thirds inches and the depth is one-half inch. For 6-, 8-, and 10-inch pipe the pitch is one and one-half inches and the depth is one-fourth inch. (See detail on this page for definitions of pitch and dep~h.) CORRUGATED METAL PIPE·ARCH (CSPA, CASPA, CAPA) Corrugated metal pipe-arch performs the same function as round pipe and is used primarily where there is limited headroom or cover over the pipe or where the hydraulic conditions necessitate its use. Corrugated metal pipe-arch, like corrugated metal pipe, is usually fabricated in 20-foot sections, although sections of other lengths are available. The pipe-arch is available in many sizes. The minimum span x rise is 17 x 13 inches and the maximum is 83 x 57 inches. The available wall thicknesses are .064 inches (16 gauge), .079 inches (14 gauge), .109 inches (12 gauge), .138 inches (10 gauge), and .168 inches (8 gauge). The pitch of the corrugations is two and two-thirds inches, and the depth is one-half inch (see detail on this page for definitions of pitch and depth). DEEP CORE {3 X 1 & 5 X 1) Deep Core is corrugated metal pipe which has a pitch of three inches or five inches and a depth of one inch (see detail on this page for definitions of pitch and depth). For larger diameters, this corrugation profile allows the use of lighter gauge material for any given loading condition and reduces the weight and cost of corrugated metal pipe by 30% to 60%. The use of Deep Core provides economy and strength in larger diameters. The standard length is 20 feet, although other lengths are available. The available diameters range from 42 inches to 144 inches. The available wall thicknesses are .064 inches (16 gauge), .079 inches (14 gauge), .109 inches (12 gauge) and .138 inches (10 gauge). DEEP CORE (3 X 1 & 5 X 1) PIPE·ARCH Deep Core can also be arched where limited head room is encountered. The available wall thicknesses are .079 inches (14 gauge), .109 inches (12 gauge) and .138 inches (10 gauge). The minimum span x rise is 60 inches x 46 inches and maximum is 171 x 110 inches. Refer to technical manuals for heights of cover, size, and gauge tables. This exciting new product was developed in response to the needs of drainage designers for a pipe product with the hydraulics of smoothwall pipe plus the many other advantages of corrugated metal pipe. Pacific Corrugated Pipe Company has developed a variety of rib profiles to provide the widest range of sizes available in the industry. SRP is available in sizes of 12 inches through 144 inches in steel and 12 inches through 120 inches in aluminum alloy. Fabrication: SRP is a flexible metal conduit manufactured from a continuous strip of galvanized steel, aluminized Type II steel, or aluminum alloy. Available steel thicknesses are .064 inch, .079 inch, and .109 inch. Available aluminum thicknesses are .060 inch, .075 inch, and .105 inch. The coil strip is passed through a forming line which forms the ribs and prepares the edges. The formed section is then helically wound into pipe and the edges are joined by mechanical lockseaming. P-. CORRUGATED PIPE co.• Hydraulics: In 1983, a series of friction factor tests were conducted on SRP at the Utah Water Research Laboratory located at Utah State University in Logan, Utah (Hydraulics Program Report No. 83). Tests were conducted on 24-inch and 36-inch SRP with open ribs and 36-inch SRP with ribs filled. Comparison of the results with ribs filled to open ribs showed little influence on flow due to the open rib section. MANNING$ FORMULA: Q= 0.463 n n=0.011 Analysis of the test results and theoretical scaling to larger sizes resulted in a recommended value of n= .011 for use in Manning's Formula for all diameters. FLOWING WATER .,. u '-',..----LJ SMOOTH WALL AllOWS LAMINAR FLOW CORRUGATIONS CREATE TURBULENT FLOW Applications: Spiral Rib Pipe is commonly specified for storm drain, irrigation, and small hydro projects. SRP should be considered for use on any project where hydraulic efficiency is a design criterion. Tens of millions of feet of SRP are currently in use worldwide . Consult Pacific Corrugated Pipe Co. for additional technical information Including height of cover tables, test reports, specifications, and Installation Information. (Separate brochures available.) 4 P-. TriShield PIPE CORRUGATED PIPE Co.• TrtShield steel ribbed polyethylene pipe is a state of the art composite pipe product. It combines smooth wall hydraulics and the structural strength of steel with the corrosion and abrasion resistance of high performance engineered polyethylenes. At the core of the TriShield composite is a strong galvanized steel sheet with 2 ounces of zinc coating per square foot. Dow Trenchcoat® protective film, 10 mil thick, is bonded to the exterior side for protection from potential soil-side corrosion. TriShield pipe's interior liner consists of a unique tie layer film and a polyolefin plastomer liner, both developed by The Dow Chemical Company specifically for this application. This lining system has been thoroughly tested and found to be highly resistant to a variety of chemicals and remarkably resistant to scour and abrasion. It also exhibits excellent adhesion and durability in handling and field service. TriShield pipe and pipe-arch are available in 30" through 108" diameters. Although 6" incremental sizing is standard, 1" incremental sizes are available for specific projects. Available steel wall thickness are .064", .079", and .109". TriShield is manufactured in accordance with national specification ASTM A 978-97. Liner Integrity The TriShield ribs are filled with extruded liner material and slightly deltoided to provide a mechanical interlock between the liner and the pipe wall. In addition, the liner is chemically bonded to the pipe wall through an intermediate adhesive tie layer. This dual attachment system provides added assurance of composite integrity. Abrasion Resistance Using a Bed Load Abrasion Test Machine (ASTM A 926), Samples of TriShield pipe were compared to samples of a typical HPDE smooth wall pipe product. The test results indicated that the TriShield polyethylene liner outperformed HDPE (on the basis of weight loss) by more than three and a half times. Economic Benefits TriShield pipe is premium pipe product that provides notable strength, installation, and durability benefits. Its light weight, long lengths, thinner walls, and variable sizing result in significant savings in material, transportation, handling, and installation costs. Trenchcoat"is a registered trademark of the Dow Chemical Company 5 Hydraulics TriShield pipe is not only tough and durable, but demonstrates exceptional hydraulic efficiency as well. It is suitable for use on storm drain, irrigation, small hydro, and most other gravity water conveyance projects where hydraulic efficiency and durability are design considerations. TriShield pipe can be made to the nearest diameter inch of size required , within the available size range. With a design Mannings "n" of 0.0105 and variable sizing, TriShield pipe often allows designers to downsize a pipe system from a standard incremental pipe size to the actual size needed. This is particularly important when clearance and flow capacities are critical. RIB SECTION Polyethylene Lining COMPOSITE WALL SECTION PIPE EXTERIOR PIPE INTERIOR 1. 2. PAVED INVERT 3. 4. '' 5. 6. 1. FULL SMOOTH INTERIOR PIPE: Hot-dip bituminous coating over entire pipe, with the addition of a special durable bituminous lining centrifugally applied (by spinning) to the interior of the pipe, to fill and cover the inside corrugations to the minimum depth of 1/8 inch over the crests. 4. POLYMERIC PRE-COATED SHEETS: Pre-coated polymer coatings, such as Dow Trenchcoat protective film, are factory applied to galvanized steel sheet prior to forming the pipe. The polymer film is abrasion resistant and provides excellent corrosion protection for many years by preventing corrosive acids, salts and bases from reaching the structural steel core. 5. POST APPLIED POLYMER COATINGS: A variety of polymer coatings can be plant applied (or field applied in some cases) to any pipe zone, interior or exterior, after pipe is fabricated. Polymer coatings can be applied to metallic or pre-coated surfaces. Often a combination of coatings is used. Type of polymer and coating thickness vary with project requirements. 6. SPECIAL INVERT TREATMENTS: A variety of specialized invert treatments can be used to provide protection from truly abrasive or highly corrosive flows or when a higher degree of assurance is needed. Specialized invert treatments may be field or factory applied. Materials commonly used for invert lining include high strength concrete, polymerized asphalt, steel bars or plates, and polyethylene. Trumbull TruFiow polymerized asphalt is shown. 7. POLYETHYLENE LINED STEEL COMPOSITE PIPE: TriShield composite ribbed steel pipe offers a strong steel core with a Dow Trenchcoat protective film on the exterior and a continuous polyethylene liner on the interior. 6 Asphalt provides extended service life where soil side corrosion is a concern. Asphalt paved invert provides extended service life where soils are corrosive and flows are continuous or erosive. For maximum flow in corrugated metal pipe (CMP & CMPA) or for special corrosive conditions. (Not required for Improved hydraulics in spiral rib pipe). Polymer pre-coated steel provides a higher level of protection from interior and exterior corrosion in mildly corrosive and/or abrasive conditions. In more severe environments, post applied polymer coatings provide additional protection and extend useful service life. Coatings of various types and thickness can be selected to meet specific pr.oject requirements. Where abrasive or erosive flows are most severe, special invert designs are needed to provide the highest level of protection. These systems are generally renewable and with proper maintenance can provide indefinite service life. TriShield pipe is a premium pipe product designed for extended service life in critical installations and harsh environments. STABILIZATION FOR GRAVEL AND PAVED AREAS SUCH AS DRIVEWAYS, PARKING AND STORAGE AREAS ROCK PAVEMENT WITHOUT GEOTEXTILE The "pumping action" caused by repeated wheel loading causes rock base and soil to intermix, weakening the structural base. Without a solid base, the pavement flexes and breaks up. 14 WITH GEOTEXTILE Geotextile prevents intermixing of soil and rock base, retaining full rock section for maximum structural support. Reduced rock requirements and lower maintenance costs more than offset the cost of geotextile. Never allow pipe to be dragged off or dropped from trailer height. Slings should be used for lifting the pipe off the trailer and for positioning pipes in the trench. When unloading a nested pipe shipment, make sure that the delivery site has ample room for unnesting the various pipe sizes. Special care should be taken to avoid damaging pipe while unnesting pipe. Unnest a pipe by using a two-by-four that is one to two inches larger than the pipe's inside diameter. Wedge it into corrugation valleys and then pull on two-by-four with a chain or wire rope. Pipe ends may be sharp. Handle with care. Use gloves and other proper protective clothing and equipment. Safety Warning: Stack the pipe on the trailer or ground with proper blocking or strapping. Be careful when removing binders or strapping on pipe bundles, either on .the trailer or ground. Never stand on pipe bundles. BEDDING & BACKFILLING Use well-graded compacted granular bedding or flowable fill material to one foot above the pipe. Trench backfill should be free of rocks, frozen lumps, and foreign material that could cause hard spots or that could decompose and create voids, compacted to 90% standard density per ASTM 0698 (AASHTO T99). Thoroughly tamp fill in max. 8" loose lifts. Keep fill at same level on both sides of pipe. Flowable fill. / ~ ~~W; \~~~...,..,..,.!.~\ EMBANKMENT I• TRENCH •I SHAPED TRENCH Outside diameter (D) plus sufficient Alternate shaped trench for room for compaction equipment. use with flowable fill. Thoroughly tamp fill in max. 8" loose lifts. Keep fill at same level on both sides of pipe-arches. Stable but relatively yielding Compacted to maximum density under haunches HEAVY CONSTRUCTION For temporary construction vehicle loads (100 kips/axle load), put at least four feet of compabted cover on top of the pipe (but not exceeding the maximum allowable cover over the pipe). The use of heavy construction equipment necessitates greater protection for the pipe than finished grade cover minimums. Contact Pacific Corrugated Pipe Co. for detailed specifications regarding backfill methods and materials.
