Unless otherwise noted,the following occurred within the city limits of Renton, county of King, state of
Washington.
On 03/24/2026, 1 was working as a uniformed police officer for the city of Renton.At approximately 2213
hours, I was dispatched to a non-injury, non-blocking motor vehicle collision at NE 12th St and Edmonds Ave
NE. Portions of my involvement in the incident were captured on my department-issued bodycam.Any
statements referred to have been paraphrased and summarized.
When I arrived on scene, 1 located both involved vehicles in the parking lot at 1140 Edmonds Ave NE. I spoke
to the driver of unit 1 who claimed they caused the collision because they were distracted by their cell phone.
They explained that they were waiting in line to proceed through the stop sign when they failed to stop for
unit 2 in front of them.
I spoke to the driver of unit 2,who advised the rear of their vehicle was struck by unit 1 while they were
stopped at the stop sign.They just bought the vehicle on 03/23/2026 and did not have any insurance, nor the
registration for it.
Renton Regional Fire Authority arrived on scene and evaluated the driver of unit 2 for complaint of neck pain.
I believe the driver of unit 1 to be the proximate cause of the collision due to their self-admission of being
distracted by their cell phone. I completed SECTOR citation#6A0002923 for violation of Renton Municipal
Code 10-12-25, Inattentive Driving. I routed the citation to the prosecutor's queue.
