NARRATIVE

Within the city limits of Renton/King/Wa I responded to a 2 vehicle blocking crash at the intersection
of S Grady Way at Rainier Ave S.
When I arrived I located a car blocking the westbound lane 1 of Grady Way and another vehicle
blocking the middle of the intersection.
I contacted the driver of unit 2 who told me he was behind unit 1 and provided a partial video from his
dash cam, that was unplugged during the crash. However he told me that when the light changed to
green from the left turn lane unit 1 stopped in the middle of the intersection and slightly to the right of
the lane. Unit 2 told me he waited just a second to see but unit 1 remained stopped. Unit 2 told me
he signalled to go around unit 1 and as he was slowly passing him that unit 1 made a sudden left turn
into the side of his vehicle. He did not complain of injury and damages did require a tow truck.
I contacted the driver of unit 1 ID'd by his picture WADL. He told me he is a new driver and the crash
was his fault, because he wasnt sure how or when to make his turn after the light changed to green.
He said he pulled forward and stopped and waited to decided which direction he wanted to go. As he
was deciding while stopped in the middle of the intersection and as unit 2 was going around him he
decided to proceed with a U-turn and drove into the side of unit 2. He did not complain of injury and
damages required a tow truck.
I cited unit 1 Ref RCW 46.61.295 improper U-turn via complaint. (1) The driver of any vehicle shall
not turn such vehicle so as to proceed in the opposite direction unless such movement can be made
in safety and without interfering with other traffic.
