NARRATIVE
On March 31, 2026 at approximately 0910 hours, I was dispatched to a blocking vehicle collision in
the 1120 block of SW Grady Way, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of
Washington.
While en route, Dispatch advised that two vehicles were involved in a collision at the intersection and
were blocking. Dispatch advised that the Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) would be
simultaneously dispatched due heavy mechanism and suspected injuries. Upon my arrival, 1 was told
that the driver of Unit#2 would be transported to Valley Medical Center.
The driver of Unit#1, identified as Daniel Shapiro, stated he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and
was attempting to exit a private property parking lot, located at 1120 SW Grady Way. Daniel stated
that he was intending to make a left turn out of the parking lot to proceed eastbound onto SW Grady
Way following the turn. Daniel stated that two vehicles in the westbound lanes had created an
opening in traffic to allow enough space for Unit#1 to turn. Daniel believed all westbound traffic on
Grady was clear and therefore proceeded out into the roadway. As Unit#1 reached the center-turn-
lane, Unit#1 was met by another vehicle - Unit#2. The driver of Unit#1 claimed he did not see Unit
#2 traveling in the center-turn-lane. Daniel stated that he was unable to avoid the collision after
having pulled out into the roadway and that Unit#2 struck the front of Unit#1, specifically on the
vehicles front bumper, causing significant damage.
The driver of Unit#2, identified as Dwight Parrish, said he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and
was traveling westbound in about the 1100 block of SW Grady Way and in the center-turn-lane. As
Dwight proceed to the traffic light to make a left turn, he collided with Unit#1 in the center median.
Unit#2 suffered significant damage to the front passenger side, including the wheel of the vehicle.
Based on the above statements, 1 believe that the driver of Unit#1 (Daniel) is the proximate cause
for the cause of collision as he is required to comply with RCW 46.61.205(1) which states that every
driver of a vehicle about to enter or cross a highway from a private road or driveway shall yield the
right-of-way to all vehicles lawfully approaching on said highway. Unit#2 was already underway in
the roadway and had right of way.
I issued Daniel a citation via mail.
Unit#2 had to be towed due to extensive damage. An exchange of information was provided to all
involved parties.
