NARRATIVE
CC 26-2076
On 3/16/2026 at 0635 hours I was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of S 7th
St and Shattuck Ave S in the City of Renton, King County, Washington.
Pre-Collision
Driver 2 stated that he was traveling West on S 7th St in the #1 lane approaching Shattuck Ave S.
Driver 1 stated that he was behind Unit 2 in the #1 lane of S 7th St approaching Shattuck Ave S.
Prior to this, Unit 2 had stopped and was having user operator issues at the intersection of Talbot Rd
S and S Grady Way. Driver 2 explained that he was trying to turn off his windshield wipers and
accidently placed his vehicle into park. Unit 2 is a Tesla Cybertruck, so all vehicle operations are
manipulated through the center console screen display. Driver 1 stated that he saw Driver 2 on his
phone and that was the reason that he had stopped in traffic. Driver 2 showed me video from the
incident showing the chain of events from outside of the vehicle. This video was later uploaded to
evidence.com.
Collision
Driver 2 stated that as he was traveling West on S 7th St approaching Shattuck Ave S, Unit 1 crossed
over the double yellow line and attempted to pass him in the oncoming lanes of travel. Driver 2
showed me video of this and it showed that Unit 1 attempted to merge in front of Unit 2 as it was
driving straight ahead from the lefthand turn lane of S 7th St. At this point the rear passenger side
bumper of Unit 1 collided with the front drivers side bumper of Unit 2.
Driver 1 stated the same events occurred and voiced that he was frustrated with the driving of Unit 2.
Driver 1 claimed that Unit 2 had been brake checking him and that Unit 2 had sped up to intentionally
block him from passing him prior to the collision on Talbot Rd S. Based on the video, I do not see
evidence of brake checking from Unit 2 and I am unable to determine whether Unit 2 sped up on
Talbot Rd S to block Unit 1 from passing, or rather to compensate for time that was lost when stopped
in traffic while manipulating controls.
Injuries
None reported.
Vehicle Disposition
Both vehicle were operational.
Proximate Cause
I determined that Driver 1 is the proximate cause of this collision because a vehicle shall be driven as
nearly as practicable entirely within a single lane and shall not be moved from such lane until the
driver has first ascertained that such movement can be made with safety.
Driver 1 was cited reference RCW 46.61.140.
