NARRATIVE
#26-2836
Unless otherwise noted, all events took place in the City of Renton, in the County of King, in the State
of Washington.
This incident was captured on my body worn video camera and in-car cameras. This report is a
summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events.
On 04/11/2026 at approximately 1033 hours I was dispatched to a non injury, non-blocking accident
at the intersection of SE 142nd PI and 156th Ave SE in the city of Renton, King County, WA.
Unit#1 was a maroon 2008 Toyota Prius with WA LIC CTT3099 (VIN: JTDKB20U483323205). The
driver of unit 1 was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was wearing their seatbelt, and had no injuries.
Roadway conditions were wet and overcast at the time the collision occurred. Unit#1 was able to
remove it self from the roadway, but did have to be towed away.
Driver#1 of Unit#1 was traveling north bound on 152nd Ave SE. She was stopped at the stop light
and started to proceed straight when it turned green. The road has a slight bend to it at this point. As
she proceeded through the light, she stated that her steering wheel locked up, not allowing her to
steer her vehicle which cause her to go over the curb and hit a speed limit and "Renton City Limit"
sign on a metal post. Driver#1 informed me she knew about issues with her steering wheel prior to
driving her car.
Pictures of the collision were uploaded to Axon from my department issued cell phone.
Driver#1 did have insurance. A case number was provided to her and Gene Meyer's towing was
dispatched to remove her vehicle from the roadway.
At the conclusion of my investigation, I determined that Unit#1 was the proximate cause of the
collision as she was aware of a vehicle defect with her steering wheel locking up.
If Unit#1 had not operated the vehicle with a defective steering wheel then the collision would likely
have not occurred
This concludes my report.
