Inspection: All plant material and finish grades are subject to approval of the owner. Repair and/or replace items as directed by Owner at no additional cost. 2. Protection: Save and protect all surrounding work. Do not plant until all other construction operations have been completed. Save and protect existing trees or other plantings designated to remain. 3. Repair: Repair any damage to curbs, paving, lighting, fences, signs and structures which occur during the course of work, to the satisfactiun of the Owner, at no additional cost. 4. Preparation: Rototill minimum 4" of Canposted Soil Ammendment into existing subsoil to a minimum depth of 10" in all shrub and lawn areas. Remove all rock and foreign objects greater than 2" in diameter. Add dolomitic limestone in all lawn areas at the rate of 100 lbs. per 1000 square feet. Fine grade all planting areas (P.A.'s) in preparation for seeding/sodding/plant installation. 5. Guarantee and Maintenance: Guarantee all plant material for a period of one 1 year from date of final acceptance of the entire job by Owner. Maintain all planting areas until final acceptance, including watering, weeding, pruning, adjusting plants to an upright position, removing and replacing dead plant material. Guarantee lawn until active growth is evident. Contractor nut responsible for theft or vandalism after installation and final acceptance. B. Materials 1. Plant Materials: Plants shall be Washington Grade No. 1, size in accordance with AAN Standards, healthy, vigorous, free from all disease, pest or injury. Do not prune or top prior to delivery to site. "B a B" indicates balled and burlapped; "Cont." indicates container; "B.R." indicates bare root. Substitu- tions are strongly discouraged. Spacing of shrubs and groundcovers shall be triangular (equidistant) unless otherwise indicated; begin first row of plantings at distance of S indicated spacing back from edge of planting area. 2. Sodded Lawn: 70% Perennial Rye, 30% Kentucky Bluegrass, free of weeds. Avoid sod grown on heavy clay soil. Submit supplier name and location for approval. 3. Composted Soil Armnendment: Composted steer manure such as Steerco or Fortile- Mulch, or GroCo, conposted sludge and sawdust. (GroCo for ornamentals only. 4. Planting Backfill: (for trees and all plant materials) 25% existing native soil, 50% imported topsoil, 25% Composted Soil Anmendment, by volume, throughly mixed. 5. Imported Topsoil: Screened sandy loam, as approved. Soils analysis may be requested prior to approval, tests by approved soils lab, results suLlnitted to Owner at no additional cost. 6. Mulch: Ground bark of hemlock or fir, 1-1/4" minus; max. 20% fines. 7. Fertilizer: Agriform tablets, 21 grain, 20-10-5 NPK, placed at 1/3 depth down in planting pit at the following rate: 4 per tree, 2 per shrub, 1 per ground - cover, vine, perennial plant, PLUS 4 oz. Transplanter liquid fertilizer per tree, 2 oz. per shrub. Fertilize lawn with an approved slow -release fertilizer at the rate recommended by manufacturer, at the time of planting. 8. Herbicide: Casaron or approved pre -emergent herbicide. Use Licensed Applicator to apply to all new and existing planting areas at the manufacturer's recom- mended rate. C. Installation 1. Planting Ti: During periods which are normal for such work as determined by Tim season, weather conditions and accepted practice. 2. Trees: Stake locations or arrange trees on site in proposed locations for approval by Owner. Excavate planting pit per detail, ensuring pit drains. 3:•. Shrubs: Excavate shrub pits to 6" below, and min. twice the diameter of the rootball or container. Backfill with specified mix, adding fertilizer. Water thoroughly to settle backfill, adjust plant height to same as grown in nursery. Plant shrubs at spacing indicated in straight, evenly spa rows.
