Fairwood Community Group/Fairwood Market Night received a $1000 grant from Renton Municipal Arts Commission in 2025.
Fairwood Market Night’s 2025 season featured a dynamic series of free, family-friendly events celebrating arts, culture, and community connection in the Fairwood
area. With support from the Renton Municipal Arts Commission, the Market proudly hosted a dedicated booth for Renton artists to showcase and sell their work,
expanding access and visibility for local creatives. This collaboration provided Renton-based artists an opportunity to engage directly with hundreds of attendees,
share their artistic practices, and strengthen ties between the Fairwood and Renton arts communities.
Throughout the season, each Market highlighted unique cultural themes and interactive experiences designed to be inclusive and engaging for all ages. Events
included a traditional Lion Dance blessing, youth-friendly environmental activities such as planting seeds and ȵy-ȴshing demonstrations, and a variety of live
performances by local musicians and dance groups. Families participated in free creative activities like pumpkin decorating, pet-themed art, and picture-frame
decorating, fostering intergenerational participation and arts learning.
The Renton Artists Booth enriched the Market’s overall cultural landscape, giving the public access to original artwork, demonstrations, and conversations that
deepened appreciation for the local arts ecosystem. By creating a welcoming, no-cost environment for residents and artists alike, Fairwood Market Night and the
Renton Municipal Arts Commission together advanced shared goals of accessibility, inclusion, and community enrichment through the arts.

Fairwood Market Night Renton Artist Residency Showcase
Brief project description
Fairwood Market Night is a seasonal community gathering that transforms the Northwood Middle School campus into a vibrant hub of culture,
creativity, and connection. Held monthly from May through October, the market brings together thousands of residents, hundreds of local
vendors and performers, and a growing network of youth, cultural, and nonproϐit partners. Established in 2023 under the Fairwood

Community Group nonproϐit, Fairwood Market Night was created to ϐill a long-recognized gap in the community—a missing “Main Street” where
neighbors could gather, celebrate, and build lasting relationships. Today, it has become exactly that: a welcoming, intergenerational space that
reϐlects the diversity, resilience, and spirit of Fairwood.
Each market features a unique cultural theme, offering immersive activities, performances, and hands-on experiences that make every month
distinct. These themes deepen community pride while elevating the voices, traditions, and talents of local cultural groups, youth organizations,
and emerging artists. The result is a market that is not only a place to shop, but a place to belong.
Fairwood Market Night proposes to expand its successful 2025 partnership with the Renton Municipal Arts Commission by evolving the Renton
Artists Booth into a more visible and structured Renton Artist Residency Showcase for the 2026 season. This enhanced model will continue to
provide Renton-based artists with a no-cost platform to exhibit and sell their work while increasing their visibility within a well-attended,
family-friendly community event.
Across six themed markets from May through October, a monthly featured Renton artist will be highlighted through a dedicated display at the
Market Hub, where a selected piece of their work will be showcased along with signage directing attendees to the artist’s booth. This simple but
effective enhancement strengthens artist visibility, encourages deeper engagement, and helps attendees connect directly with Renton’s creative
community.
Fairwood Market Night will partner with community partner Renton Art Oasis to identify participating artists and collaborate on coordinated
social media promotions, ensuring strong outreach and elevating Renton artists across both organizations’ platforms. Booth fees for Renton
artists will continue to be waived, maintaining equitable access and supporting emerging and established creatives alike.
This 2026 proposal builds intentionally on last year’s success by offering a clearer structure for artist recognition, expanding promotional
support, and strengthening ties between Fairwood and Renton’s arts communities. The season is expected to reach 4,500–5,000 attendees and
feature at least six Renton artists in residency, advancing shared goals of accessibility, cultural enrichment, and community connection.

The Renton Public Arts Program is committed to broadening the scope of arts programming and connecting with underserved populations in the
City of Renton and the broader community. Please detail what steps you plan to take to connect with underserved populations in the City.*
Fairwood Market Night is committed to ensuring that Renton residents of all backgrounds can access and participate in arts programming. To reach underserved
populations, we will promote the event through local libraries and other trusted public spaces where multilingual families, youth, and community members
regularly gather. Our partnership with Renton Art Oasis will further expand our outreach into neighborhoods and networks that serve diverse and historically
underserved communities, helping us connect with residents who may not otherwise be aware of arts opportunities. We also collaborate with the Family First
Community Center in Renton, whose programs engage youth and families across a wide range of cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. To support language
access, we are purchasing a translation device that can be loaned to attendees during the event, ensuring nonဩEnglishဩspeaking residents can fully participate.
Together, these strategies strengthen our ability to reach underserved communities and ensure that Fairwood Market Night reȵects and serves the full diversity of
Renton.

“Fairwood Market Night means a lot to me.
As a business owner, I feel truly connected to
the community. It’s a chance to share my
love for the outdoors—like fly fishing and the
Cedar River cleanup—while also offering
junk removal and helping keep the market
clean. I look forward to being part of it each
month and contributing for years to come.”

“Fairwood Market Night is one of my favorite
events to vend at. The entire team curates a
great group of vendors, has monthly themes
& puts thought into how to bring community
in and get them involved. While some
markets arte transactional, I feel lik part of
the family at FMN and always look forward to
working with their team and seeing what
they’ll come up with next. “

community in a real-worlk setting has not only
boosted their confidence, but also lead to a
noticable uptick in their sales. The on-the-fly
coaching we’re able to provide during the event
has been increadibly impacftul. It’s a turly

“The Zone 3 Fire Cadets
enjoy volunteering at
Fairwood Market Nights—
sharing fire safety tips,
offering blood pressure
checks, and educating
families. The Market also
helps them build
leadership and teamwork
skills while connecting
with local businesses and
youth groups. Each event
strengthens their
foundation for future
careers as Firefighters and
EMTs.”

“Fairwood Market Night is such a gift
to my family to be able to walk just
outside my neighborhood to
experience music, culture, artists, live
performances, activities, shop local
crafters and re-connect with friends.
It’s a unique & magical experience
every month, that just isn’t available
anywhere else quite like this!”.

“Fairwood Market Night has quickly become one of the most impactful
community traditions in unincorporated King County. By bringing together
local businesses, artists, families, and cultural organizations, this event not
only strengthens our local economy but also fosters connection and pride
among neighbors. I have been impressed by the dedication of the Fairwood
Community Group and the innovative programming that continues to grow
each year. Fairwood Market Night is a shining example of how grassroots
efforts can enrich the quality of life for residents, and I am proud to support
their work."
