NARRATIVE
ASSIGNMENT/ARRIVAL
On 05/29/2026 at approximately 0643 hours, I was dispatched to a single vehicle collision off the
roadway and into a tree in the 200 block of NE 3rd Street in the city of Renton, King County,
Washington.
I arrived at approximately 0645 hours.
UNIT 1: NISSAN PATHFINDER
Upon arrival I observed a black 2003 Nissan Pathfinder (WA/ CUX9214, Unit 1) stopped off the
roadway in the grass/dirt on the south side of NE 3rd Street. Unit 1 had not been moved from its point
of rest. Unit 1 was facing south and tire marks in the dirt indicated it drove northeast on NE 3rd Street,
left the roadway, collided with a tree/stump, then rotated clockwise until it came to rest.
Unit 1 had moderate front end damage from the collision.
DRIVER 1: GIRON, MIGUEL A.
I contacted Miguel A. Giron (DOB: 04/29/1969) standing near Unit 1. I positively identified Giron by
his expired (since 2023) Washington Driver License and established him as the driver of Unit 1 by his
admission. Giron did not have insurance.
Giron complained of a sore neck from the collision but declined to be seen by the Renton Regional
Fire Authority on scene.
WITNESS: SHUMAN, JODY E.
I contacted a witness on scene, Jody E. Shuman (DOB: 01/16/1986). Jody told me the following
about the collision:
Jody drove northeast on NE 3rd Street in the number one lane. Unit 1 drove in the number two lane
slightly ahead of Jody. For a reason unknown to Jody, Unit 1 suddenly quickly veered to the right
(south), left the roadway, and collided with a tree.
This concluded my conversation with Jody.
STATEMENT: DRIVER 1
1 spoke with Giron about the collision using a Spanish Language Line interpreter. The following is a
summary of our conversation:
Giron drove Unit 1 east on NE 3rd Street. Unit 1 suddenly "slipped" and veered to the right, forcing
him off the road and eventually colliding with a tree.
Giron didn't previously know Unit 1 to have steering issues, but believed because of the unexplained
action he must have experienced a mechanical failure, causing him to crash.
This concluded my conversation with Giron.
PROXIMATE CAUSE
The proximate cause of the collision was determined by roadway evidence, Unit 1's point of rest, my
observations of Unit 1, Giron's statement and Shuman's statement.
The proximate cause of the collision as Giron's violation of RCW 46.61.670, Wheels Off Roadway, by
driving a vehicle over and along a pavement surfaced public highway with all wheels off the roadway
thereof, causing him to collide with a tree about 20 feet south of the southeast roadway edge.
CITATIONS
I issued Giron a citation (#6A0174095) for RCW 46.20.015, No Valid Operator's License, RCW
46.61.670, Driving with Wheels Off Roadway, and RCW 46.30.020, Operating a Motor Vehicle
without Insurance.
DISPOSITION
Giron was arrested for an unrelated arrest warrant. Giron's vehicle was privately towed.
