� RENTON MUNICIPAL ARTS COMMISSION MINUTES
Tuesday, November 7, 2017
Members Present
Mitch Shepherd, Adrienne La Faye, Samantha Goetz-Granquist, Su Gow, and Evelyn
Reingold
Excused Absence: Bill Huls, Mary Clymer, Neil Sheesley, Ben Andrews, Marsha Rollinger,
Kim Patterson, and Dave Samek
Staff Present: Elizabeth Higgins, Staff Liaison - City of Renton Department Community &
Economic Development
Guests Present: Andrew Abrams— Metal Sculptor and Renton resident
Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC - Chair, Mitch Shepherd at 6:05 pm;
however there was No Quorum to vote on business matters.
* Andrew Abrams gave a brief PowerPoint overview of his metal sculptures. He will be on
the agenda for the January meeting to share his work with the other RMAC members.
Andrew will also develop a proposal of possible locations and installation costs for
consideration.
Approval of Minutes: The October 3, 2017 minutes will be reviewed at the December
meeting.
Correspondence and Announcements:
Jessie Kotarski, RMAC Administrative Assistant, gave birth to 7.2 Ibs. Baby Boy, Canaan
James on November 6, 2017.
• Other - Correspondence and event folders were circulated for individual review.
• 2018 Budget Update: The City Council approved the Mayor's $50,000 budget request
for art & culture projects for next year. Great news!
• Holiday Support— Elizabeth will check with John Collum for the amount needed from
RMAC for the art projects at the Santa House at the Piazza.
• New Business:
*Grant Requests—Adrienne, Neil, and Kim served on the RMAC Grant Review Committee.
There were 7 grant applications submitted by the deadline. The Grant Committee met,
reviewed the applications, and has made recommendations. RMAC approval will be
coordinated via email by Elizabeth.
*Galvanizing Art Projects
* New Year's Eve Concert—A family friendly concert at the Renton Civic Theatre to
showcase local music (Neil and Dave). RMAC approved the budget of$3000 via on-line
vote.
Old Business:
* 3�d &Wells Dragon Update—The project is ready to go. City Attorney concerned about
bid process. Jim Kelly, 4Culture Director, determined that specific creative artwork like this
is NOT bid and the artist team is the sole-source for the art project.
Other:
*Cascadia Poetry festival in Renton in 2019 —This is a major event and details are in
discussion.
*Seattle Film Summit in Renton — December meeting
*Holiday Projects (Small Business Saturday, holiday window display GAP) — December
meeting
The meeting was adjourned at 8:09 p.m.
