Hi Nancy,
Thank you for your comments on the Funbox project at 601 S Grady Way, Suite P (LUA26-000146). We appreciate
your assessment of the cultural significance of this area and the potential for unknown archaeological deposits.
We will forward your recommendation for an inadvertent discovery plan (IDP), your request for notification and the
opportunity to be present if archaeological work or monitoring occurs, and your request for dark-sky-compliant
permanent lighting to the applicant and include them in the project record.
At this time, the proposal is a change of use and interior tenant improvement with no exterior ground-disturbing
work identified; if the scope changes to include ground disturbance into native soils, the City will revisit the need
for additional archaeological protection measures.
Thank you again for your valuable input and continued collaboration with the City of Renton.

Subject: Response to Tribal Comments on Cultural and Archaeological Resources
To the Duwamish Tribal Historic Preservation Officer,
Thank you for providing your valuable comments and cultural context regarding the proposed
Funbox project located at 601 S Grady Way, Suite P, Renton, WA .
As the Architect of Record for the Funbox project, thank you for your comments
regarding the cultural significance of this area.
To clarify, the full scope of work is an interior renovation of approximately 19,900 sf. It
involves the remodeling of an existing commercial tenant space to accommodate a new
FunBox indoor entertainment facility. Modifications will include a new layout and
finishes, updated lighting, restroom and other modifications.
Because all work is confined to the existing structure and facade, no excavation,
trenching, or groundbreaking activity into native soils will occur. Given this
interior-focused scope, we have established the following protocols for the project:
● Inadvertent Discovery Plan (IDP): In the highly unlikely event that any
subsurface work becomes necessary, or if any cultural resources are
unexpectedly encountered during construction, all activity will stop immediately.
An IDP will be implemented, and the Duwamish Tribe will be notified immediately
so your representatives have the opportunity to be present on-site.
● Lighting: No exterior site lighting changes are included in this project. Any
illumination required for the new facade signage will be designed to be dark sky
compliant to minimize light pollution.
We appreciate your guidance in protecting these non-renewable cultural resources.
