EH09202 CASE# 26-4230 OF COLLISION06/01/26 17:00 NARRATIVE Renton Case #26-4230 On 06/01/2026 at 1708 hours I responded to the 500 block of Monster RD SW, in the City of Renton, King County, Washington. I was responding to the call of a recent two car rollover accident. This incident was captured on my body worn video camera. This report is a summation of events that occurred and is not an exact sequence of events. Upon arrival, I contacted all involved parties who were standing on the sidewalk of Monster RD SW, just south of Beacon Coalmine RD S. I identified Unit 1 as a black 2001 Honda Civic (WA LIC #CVT5923) being driven by the registered owner of the vehicle, identified by his WA DL as Francisco Abundez (DOB 10/13/1990). Unit 1 driver provided me with his WA DL, vehicle insurance and registration. Unit 1 driver stated he was not injured, though he was later evaluated by Renton Fire as a precaution. I identified Unit 2 as a white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (WA LIC #D18713E) being driven by Unit 2 driver, identified by his WA DL as Joseph T Hatcher (DOB 01/10/1988). Unit 2 driver provided me with his WA DL, insurance and registration. Unit 2 driver stated he was not injured and later declined to be evaluated by Renton Fire. In speaking with Unit 2 driver, he stated he was stopped in the northbound lane of travel on Monster RD SW, setting up to turn westbound on Beacon Coalmine RD S. As Unit 2 driver waited for oncoming traffic to clear, he observed Unit 1 vehicle approach his vehicle from behind. Unit 2 driver said that as Unit 1 got closer, the vehicle did not slow and Unit 1 driver attempted to swerve onto the right shoulder to avoid colliding with Unit 2 vehicle. Though Unit 1 vehicle attempted to avoid unit 2 vehicle, it ended up making contact near the right rear bumper of Unit 2 vehicle. After striking Unit 2, Unit 1 vehicle then drove into a ditch, causing it to rollover on its side. In speaking with Unit 1 driver, he stated that he was traveling northbound on Monster RD SW and was behind Unit 2 vehicle. Unit 1 driver said that as he approached Unit 2, he attempted to stop the vehicle as to not strike Unit 2 vehicle. Unit 1 driver said that when he depressed the brake pedal, the pedal went all the way to the floorboard and did not slow he vehicle. As a result of not being able to stop, his vehicle struck Unit 2 vehicle and then partially rolled once he drove into the ditch. I observed significant to Unit 1 vehicle and significant right rear bumper damage to Unit 2 vehicle. All observed damaged was consistent with the version of events as provided by both Unit 1 and Unit 2 drivers. I took photographs of both vehicles and later uploaded them to Axon Evidence. Gene Meyer towing was dispatched and removed Unit 1 vehicle from the scene. I provided each involved unit with a case number and answered their remaining questions. I then cleared the scene.
