HomeMy WebLinkAboutJ_Justification 1 Memorandum  Date: May 1, 2026 To: City of Renton Community and Economic Development Department From: Janine Robinson, King County Metro CC: Jeffrey Nakken, King County Metro; Jennifer Ash, King County Metro; John McKenzie, Jacobs; Angela Villar, Jacobs  Subject: King County Metro RapidRide I-Line  Special Fence Permit Justification for Parcel No. 322305-9135 King County Metro (Metro) proposes to provide a new RapidRide bus rapid transit service connecting the cities of Renton, Kent, and Auburn in south King County. This pathway is currently served by Route 160. This new RapidRide I Line Project (Project) route would extend almost 17 miles from the northern terminus in Renton, the Renton Transit Center, to the southern terminus in Auburn, the Auburn Station.   The purpose of this memorandum is to provide justification for a Special Fence Permit that would allow the construction of a 6-foot-tall fence behind the proposed RapidRide shelter at the SEC of 108th Avenue SE and SE 186th Street. In an effort to provide additional screening for the residential, corner property at 18429 108th Ave SE, King County Metro (Metro) is requesting approval to construct a 6-foot-tall fence within the front yard setback of said property. The 94-foot-long fence would be constructed along the east and southeast (corner) ROW lines, outside of the required clear vision area. The proposed 6-foot, cedar plank fence is in keeping with the scale of other existing residential fencing along 108th Avenue SE. (The residential properties immediately to the north and east, across 108th Avenue SE, include 6-foot-tall wood fencing along the right-of way.) All properties located within 300 feet of the site are within the City of Renton jurisdiction and zoned Residential (R-8), with a land use designation of Residential Medium Density.
