SGT KORDEL NARRATIVE 2026-4606
*Note: I had my body cam activated for this call.
On 06-13-2026 at 1340 hours, I was dispatched to a 2-vehicle collision that was in the parking lot of
the gas station located at 4102 NE 4th St in the City of Renton, King County, WA State. I arrived at
1349 hours. I identified the following drivers (and sole occupants when the collision occurred) via WA
DOS photo licenses:
Vehicle 1 (Toyota Camry CRD0800) driver (and owner): Dean R Thompson (11-22-1962).
Vehicle 2 (Honda CRV 902ZZE) driver (and owner) Virginia M Merrill (07-02-1966).
Vehicle 1 had minor front end damage.
Vehicle 2 had minor rear end damage.
Thompson did not have his insurance card on him, but I later went to his residence where he showed
me his insurance card (policy number listed in this report). It showed expired in 2025, but Thompson
assured me that his policy was still valid.
Merrill had her insurance card on her.
Thompson told me that he was driving westbound in lane 1 of NE 4th St approaching Union Ave NE.
Vehicle 2 was ahead of Thompson, and another vehicle was ahead of Vehicle 2. The light turned
green, and it appeared as if Vehicle 2 was going to continue through the light, but a pedestrian was
crossing the street and Vehicle 2 needed to stop. Thompson could not stop in time and struck the
rear end of Vehicle 2.
Merrill told me that she was westbound in lane 1 of NE 4th St, stopped behind another vehicle who

was waiting for a pedestrian to cross the roadway when she was struck from behind by Vehicle 1.
Merrill believed that Vehicle 2 had been speeding.
Thompson was not injured.
Merrill said that her back and head hurt. She did not have any visible injuries, but I had Renton Fire
respond for an assessment. They examined Merrill and did not recommend that she get transported
to the hospital. They said that if symptoms persist, she could later go to an urgent care facility.
Thompson was the proximate cause of this collision. He had the responsibility to stop when Merrill
was lawfully stopped at the intersection waiting for a pedestrian to cross.
I did not issue any Infraction, and provided both drivers with the case number.
