EH11824 CASE# 26-4410 OF COLLISION 06/07/26 04:17 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE #26-4410 Unless otherwise noted, all events took place in the City of Renton, in the County of King, in the State of Washington. This incident was captured on my body worn video camera and in-car cameras. This report is a summary of events that occurred and is not an exact sequencing of events. On 06/07/2026 at approximately 0417 hours I was dispatched to a two vehicle police involved collision at the intersection of 116th Ave SE and SE 164th St in the city of Renton, King County, WA. Unit#1 was a black 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe with WA XMT LIC 67610D (VIN: 1 GNLCDEC3KR357676). The driver of unit 1 was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was operating with lights and sirens, was wearing their seatbelt, and had a possible head injury. Unit#2 was a black 2019 Chevrolet Tahoe with WA XMT LIC 67626D (VIN: 1 GNLCDECOKR355190). The driver of unit 2 was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was operating with light and sirens, may have been wearing their seatbelt, and had no injuries. Roadway conditions were dry with overcast skies and streetlights at the time the collision occurred. Both vehicles were traveling northbound on a single lane roadway with no dividing barrier. Both vehicles were towed to the City of Renton maintenance shops. Driver#1 of Unit#1 was responding code (lights and sirens) to a report (RPD #26-4409) of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway, through a fence, and into the back of a house located at 16425 116th PL SE. The vehicle was driving north bound on 116th Ave SE. The driver of the vehicle stated they looked at their MDC to view the map to verify location and when they looked up they saw unit#2 stopped in the roadway directly in front of them. At this time they collided. Driver#1 stated that he believed he was going between 40-50mph at the time of the collision. Unit#2 was responding code (lights and sirens) to a report (RPD #26-4409) of a vehicle that had gone off the roadway, through a fence, and into the back of a house located at 16425 116th PL SE. Driver#2 stated he had come to a stop in the roadway where he had observed a broken fence to the east of his location. He was unsure if he had taken his seatbelt on or off at this point. As he stopped, he stated he was hit from behind by Unit#1. The impact caused severe damage to the back of his vehicle and pushed the vehicle approximately 50-60ft further down the roadway from it's original stopped position. Pictures of the collision were uploaded to Axon by Officer Castain. Both vehicles are self insured by the City of Renton. Both drivers received medical care at the scene by Renton Fire and were cleared. Driver#1 may have a possible head injury but stated he would self transport to the hospital if necessary. At the conclusion of my investigation, I determined that Unit#1 was the proximate cause of the collision as they took their eyes away from the roadway to operate their MDC and read their location. By taking their eyes away from the roadway, this also caused failure to maintain a safe distance from the vehicle in front of them. If Unit#1 had not operated their MDC while actively driving and maintained a safe operating distance from the second vehicle in front of them, then this collision would not have occurred.
