Call to Order: Meeting was called to order by RMAC Chair, Neil Sheesley at 6:00 pm.
Paul Trieu and Eric Tran manage the Village Square shopping plaza on Bronson Way. They are
working with architects to improve the appearance of the plaza, and were encouraged by City
Planner, Matt Herrera and Community Program Manager, Sandra Havlik, to include art in the
design to discourage vandalism and improve safety in the plaza. The team would like the Arts
Commission to provide recommendations for the art component of the design and are looking
for ideas and possible funding for four panels on the roof line between the tenant signs. The
Commission made the following recommendations:
• Reach out to the architects to determine how to mount potential art and consider how
to clean the art in the future (material, ease of replacement)
• Consider adding a mural to the side of the building facing Bronson
• Consider adding sculptural elements in the greenspace
• Add lighting to brighten the plaza
The Commission requested a drawing with dimension and will add the plaza to the project list
Preeti has been contacted by King County regarding an opportunity to take advantage of
leftover/surplus funds from the current round of Building for Culture grants. The funds are
leftover from awards that were granted, but never spent. The funds are for capital projects and
Renton has the opportunity to make a case for the funds. The total amount is not yet
determined, but the range could be between $20,000 and $80,000. The Renton Civic Theatre

theatre. Elizabeth and Bill will connect with Preeti to apply for the funds. A motion was made to
initiate the request with the County to use surplus grant funds to fund new seats and other
capital improvements at the Renton Civic Theatre. MSC(Evelyn/Adrienne)
Jennifer Kulik introduced her work with Silver Kite Community Arts in the hope of partnering
with the Arts Commission on future projects in Renton. Silver Kite organizes and hosts
intergenerational art projects including theatre performances, dance programs, story-telling
workshops and afterschool programs. These projects aim to unite a range of age groups in the
creation and experience of the arts. Silver Kite will be hosting an art [memory box] workshop at
the Renton Senior Center on July 26 at 1:OOpm and a holiday card making workshop in
November.
Emilio Morales, President of Arts Unlimited, provided an update on Summerfest and provided
an opportunity for the Arts Commission to get involved in the event by helping spread the word
about artist exhibit and vendor space at the July 215Y event. Arts Unlimited is requesting support
in the amount of$3,000 to help pay for performers and supplies for community art projects.
The Commissioners asked that Emilio complete the event-specific GAP application and return it
