NARRATIVE
26-4107
On May 27th, 2026, at 1640 hours dispatch requested that I respond to a possible collision near the
intersection of Monroe Ave SE and Maple Valley Hwy, in the city of Renton, county of King, and state
of Washington.
Upon my arrival, 1 spoke with a man, identified as Zachary Smith (06/06/1998), and he explained that
he was traveling north on 1405 just south of the Maple Valley Hwy Exit. As he approached the exit,
another vehicle struck his front right wheel, causing substantial damage. I asked why he didn't stop
closer to 1405, but he said that his current location appeared to be the best place for him to stop.
Zachary said the incident was a hit and run where he was the victim.
Zachary identified the suspect vehicle as a black Ford Crown Victoria bearing an unknown plate. I
asked if he could identify the other driver and he said no.
During my conversation with Zachary, I noticed he was nervous. He responded loudly and had begun
to sweat. I asked dispatch if there were any other reports of collision or hit and run in the city or 1405
and they said no.
Based on my initial interactions with Zachary, 1 suspected that he had struck something instead of
being struck. His passenger wheel had collapsed in, almost as if he struck something from the front.
His front bumper and passenger side fender were heavily damaged and parts were missing. Zachary
had ample time to stop at several locations between Monroe Ave SE and Sunset Blvd N on Maple
Valley Hwy.
Based on my suspicions, I asked another officer to go check the area for any other involved vehicle.
Later, I was told that no other involved vehicles were located.
Zachary told me that the vehicle belonged to a friend and mentioned that the vehicle is uninsured.
I tried assisting Zachary in moving the out of the roadway, but the wheel was locked and would not
move. The vehicle came to a stop on the northbound lane of Monroe Ave SE.
RCW 46.55.113(2)(b) stated that Whenever a police officer finds a vehicle unattended upon a
highway where the vehicle constitutes an obstruction to traffic or jeopardizes public safety a police
officer may take custody of the vehicle at his or her discretion.
The vehicle at that time was obstructing the roadway which created a Traffic Safety concern, so I
requested tow truck to impound the vehicle. Later, Gene Meyers Towing arrived on scene and took
custody of the vehicle.
There is no information regarding the suspect vehicle or driver.
This case is closed RTF.
