EH13534 CASE# 26-4735 OF COLLISION 06/17/26 18:56 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE 26-4735 Unless otherwise noted, the following happened within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of Washington. On 06/17/26 at approximately 1857 hours I was dispatched to an injury accident at NE Sunset Blvd and NE 10th St. A vehicle had struck a pedestrian and the pedestrian was injured. The driver of Unit#1 told Officer J. Mello who relayed to me that they were at the traffic light on NE 10th St facing west. They were the sole occupant of their vehicle. The light turned green and they began turning left onto NE Sunset Blvd. They said they did not have sunglasses on and due to the sunlight did not see the pedestrian who was crossing the street. He did not see him until he hit him. The pedestrian was in the crosswalk when he was struck. The crosswalk is in the shade while the center of the intersection is in direct sunlight. Renton Fire Department arrived on scene and assessed the pedestrian who was complaining of back pain. They deemed they were ok and did not need to go to the hospital for further treatment. The pedestrian told Officer R. Rivera who relayed to me that he was on an electric scooter and had the pedestrian walk sign, he began crossing NE Sunset Blvd in the crosswalk from north to south. Unit#1 initiated its turn from NE 10th St south onto NE Sunset Blvd and struck him in the crosswalk, knocking him off of his scooter, landing on his back. A witness saw the collision and told Officer Rivera who relayed to me that he saw the pedestrian on the scooter begin to cross the street. The pedestrian walk sign was on. Unit#1 initiated its turn from NE 10th St south onto NE Sunset Blvd and struck him in the crosswalk, knocking him off of his scooter. Unit#1 is the proximate cause of the accident. They did not grant the right of way to a pedestrian in the crosswalk as they turned. Assuming the pedestrian sign did not malfunction, it would have been signaling that it was ok to cross NE Sunset Blvd as the light on NE 10th St turned green. I do not believe it was intentional or reckless. When arriving on scene I drove towards the intersection on the same path as Unit#1 and the sunlight is shining quite bright and makes it difficult to see to the south due to the abrupt shadow of the buildings near the intersection. This is the second time in less than a month that a pedestrian was struck in the crosswalk at this exact same location due to a driver being unable to see from bright sunlight. I certify (declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the state of Washington that the foregoing is true and correct. Electronically signed by H. Deighan 13030 on 06/17/2026 hours in Renton WA. PAGE 3 OF 4 REPORTNO.!
