EH16266 CASE# 26-5062 OF COLLISION 06/28/26 23:55 OF CbLLI510N NARRATIVE On 6/28/2026, 1 was working uniformed patrol in a marked police car as 3R23. At approximately 2355 hours, I was dispatched to an officer-involved collision at the intersection of Bronson Way N/Garden Ave N, which is located within the city limits of Renton, County of King, Washington. Just prior to the collision, Officer H. Deighan of the Renton Police Department, operating Unit 1 as listed above, and Officer J. Mello of the Renton Police Department, operating Unit 2 as listed above, were dispatched to an assault in progress at JP's Bar Room at 214 Williams Ave S, Renton. Just shortly before 2355 hours, I overheard both officers air on the radio that they had been involved in a collision with each other at the above intersection. No other vehicles were involved in the collision. When I arrived at the collision location, I located both Unit 1 and Unit 2 blocking northeastern traffic on Bronson Way N at the intersection. I also saw that both Officer H. Deighan and J. Mello were outside of their vehicles on the nearby sidewalk. After speaking with both officers, it appears that both patrol vehicles collided with each other at the intersection when another officer attempted to conduct a U-Turn, resulting in the front driver's side of Unit 1 striking the front passenger side bumper and door area of Unit 2. 1 was able to review dash camera footage from Unit 1. It depicted the following: I saw that Unit 1 was traveling southwest-bound on Bronson Way N in lane 2 (left lane) approaching Garden Ave N. As Unit 1 approaches Garden Ave N, Unit 1 changes lane from lane 2 to lane 1 and begins to continue slightly onto Garden Ave N in an effort to conduct a U-Turn. As Unit 1 begins its U- Turn, Unit 2 appears in frame in lane 2 of southwest-bound Bronson Way N at the same time. Unit 1 continues to proceed to conduct a U-turn, which results in the front driver's side bumper impacting Unit 2's passenger door areas. I was unable to review Unit 2's dash camera footage at this time, as he had already removed his MDC from inside his patrol vehicle. I took a look around Unit 1. 1 saw that his entire front driver's side bumper/headlight area had sustained moderate, but disabling, damage. I saw that the front driver's side bumper was hanging off and that the entire headlight was destroyed. The front driver's side wheel well area also appeared to have been slightly damaged. I also saw that no airbags had deployed inside. I also took a look around Unit 2. 1 saw that the entire passenger side door area sustained moderate, but disabling, damage. Both passenger side door panels were dented and sustained large scrapes and scuffs. I also saw that a combination of airbags had deployed inside. I spoke to Officer H. Deighan, who was operating patrol vehicle B391 (Unit 1). He stated that he was uninjured and that he was wearing his seat belt. He also mentioned that he was not operating his vehicle in an emergency response manner at the time of the collision. I also spoke with Officer J. Mello, who was operating patrol vehicle B306 (Unit 2). He stated that he was also uninjured but mentioned he was not wearing his seatbelt. He also mentioned that he was not operating his vehicle in an emergency response manner at the time of the collision. Gene Meyer tow eventually arrived at the location and transported both vehicles to the Renton City Shops. OIC G. Latronico was notified and completed a city Origami incident report.
