NARRATIVE
26-4861
On 06/21/2026 1 was working uniformed patrol in marked Renton Police vehicle #B379 and wearing a
jumpsuit with Renton Police patches on each shoulder as well as the words "Police" written on the
front and back of my external vest. The below described incident is intended to be a summarized
version of what was captured on Axon Body Camera.
At approximately 1728 hours, I was dispatched to a rollover with injuries collision at the intersection of
Talbot Road South and South 43rd Street, within the City Limits of Renton, County of King, State of
Washington.
Upon arrival, I contacted the involved parties and confirmed both had injuries consisting of head and
leg pain. The Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) responded and evaluated all involved patients
at the scene. Both involved drivers were later transported to Valley Medical Center (VMC), Unit#1 by
ambulance and Unit#2 by private vehicle.
Prior to medical transport, I contacted each of the involved drivers and collected their driving
documents and their respective statements of what occurred leading up to the collision.
The driver of Unit#1 stated she was the sole occupant of her vehicle and had just left the Fred Meyer
gas station after fueling up. She reported ongoing mechanical issues with the vehicle she was driving,
specifically the brakes. She stated she had recently been forced to stop the vehicle in the road, place
it in park, turn off the vehicle, and activate her hazard lights. After restarting the vehicle, the issue
temporarily resolved. As she continued westbound on South Carr Road approaching the controlled
intersection of Talbot Road South and South 43rd Street, her brakes failed completely and she was
unable to stop the vehicle. She swerved to avoid stopped vehicles at the intersection but ultimately
entered the intersection against the red steady circle and collided with Unit#2.
The driver of Unit#2 stated he was the sole occupant of his vehicle and was traveling eastbound on
South 43rd Street approaching the controlled intersection in the left-turn lane, intending to make a
northbound (left) turn onto Talbot Road South. While positioned out in the intersection on a stale
green light, he observed Unit#1 approaching from the east at a high rate of speed. Unit#1 was
initially in lane 2 of 2 but abruptly swerved into the left-turn lane before entering the intersection and
colliding with Unit#2. Unit#1 rotated approximately 180 degrees and came to rest off the roadway on
the northwest side of the intersection. Unit#2 sustained significant damage.
Detective K. Lane later reviewed traffic camera footage of the intersection, which confirmed the
above statements. The footage showed Unit#1 rolling over before coming to final rest in lanes 2 and
3 of 3. Unit#1 also sustained significant damage.
Both Unit#1 and Unit#2 had to be towed away from the scene due to disabling damage. Both vehicle
owners signed acknowledgement forms from Bankers Towing. An exchange of information was
provided to both parties involved, including the case number and involved party information.
Detective Lane stated that he would export the traffic video and upload it to the case.
I certify (or declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the
foregoing is true and correct.
Electronically signed by Officer M. Nugent#11498 6/21/2026 7:00 PM Renton, King County, WA.
