NARRATIVE
CC 26-4696
On 6/16/2026 at 1531 hours I was dispatched to a motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Airport
Way and Shattuck Ave S in the City of Renton, King County, Washington.
Pre-Collision
Driver 2 stated that he was traveling East on Airport Way in the #1 lane approaching Shattuck Ave S
preparing to go straight ahead. Driver 2 stated that Unit 1 was to his left in lane #2 also traveling
Eastbound.
Driver 1 stated that she was in lane #1 traveling Eastbound on Airport Way approaching Shattuck Ave
S, preparing to turn right to proceed South on Shattuck Ave S.
Collision
Driver 2 stated that as he entered the intersection, Unit 1 turned right from the #2 lane in front of him.
Driver 2 stated that he did not have time or space to stop/slow/or maneuver to avoid a collision. Driver
2 stated that the front passenger side bumper of Unit 2 collided with the rear passenger side door of
Unit 1.
Driver 1 stated that she began her righthand turn and Unit 2 approached from behind her and
somehow collided with the rear passenger side door of Unit 1.
Upon review of roadway evidence, I saw that there were skid marks left from Unit 2 showing that Unit
2 never left the roadway. Coincidentally, in order for Driver 1's story to be true Unit 2 would have had
to be driven upon the sidewalk. Given the location of the skids, this was not the case. I reviewed
video footage from the business at the corner of this intersection which was far away, but showed
what appears to be Unit 1 turning from the middle lane into a wide turn, almost as if she had missed
her turn and attempted to turn from the middle lane. This is based off of the angle in which Unit 1
enters the frame of video.
Injuries
None reported
Vehicle Disposition
Unit 2 was rendered inoperable and was towed from the scene.
Proximate Cause
I determined that Driver 1 is the proximate cause of this collision because both the approach for a
right turn and a right turn shall be made as close as practicable to the right-hand curb or edge of the
roadway. Had Driver 1's approach and right turn been made as close as practicable to the right-hand
curb or edge of the roadway then this collision would not have happened.
Driver 1 was cited reference RCW 46.61.290.
