REPORT NO. EH19282 CASE# 26-5351 OF COLLISION

NARRATIVE
26-5351
On 07/09/2026, 1 was working uniformed patrol in marked Renton Police vehicle #B379 and wearing
a jumpsuit with Renton Police patches on each shoulder as well as the words "Police" written on the
front and back of my external vest. The below described incident is intended to be a summarized
version of what was captured on Axon Body Camera.
At approximately 1300 hours, I was dispatched to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision at the
intersection of South Grady Way and Rainier Avenue South, within the City Limits of Renton, County
of King, State of Washington.
While en route, Dispatch advised that several juveniles had been playing in the roadway prior to the
collision. One of the juveniles was struck by a vehicle and was reported to be bleeding from his head
and nose.
Upon my arrival, Renton Regional Fire Authority (RRFA) personnel were on scene triaging the
involved pedestrian. I observed a single vehicle involved with extensive front-end damage, including
a dented hood and a shattered windshield. Photographs of the vehicle damage were taken and later
uploaded to this case.
The involved driver was interviewed on scene. He stated that he and his adult passenger were
traveling westbound on South Grady Way and had stopped at the controlled intersection with Rainier
Avenue South in the left-turn lane, intending to turn southbound onto SR-167. The driver reported that
when the traffic light turned green, he proceeded forward. A juvenile male then suddenly darted into
the roadway in front of his vehicle, and he was unable to stop in time. The driver immediately stopped
his vehicle after the impact.
Sergeant P. Kordel interviewed a nearby witness who reported seeing approximately seven juveniles,
estimated to be 14-15 years old, playing "leap frog" into traffic. The witness observed the juveniles
running between vehicles as if fleeing from something or someone. According to the witness, the
juveniles continued running even after the male victim was struck.
I obtained identifying information from the injured pedestrian, who identified himself as Aziz,
Mohammad O (aka Omar), DOB 02/14/2012. Omar stated he resides at 3000 Royal Hills Dr SE #39-
A and provided his father's name as "Aziz" with a contact number of (206) 228-0009. Due to ongoing
medical evaluation by RRFA and responding medics, no further interview regarding the
circumstances of the collision was conducted with Omar at the scene.
A City of Renton employee, M.J. Van Cleave, advised she was not a witness to the actual collision
but had been driving in the area afterward. She observed three juveniles waiting at the driveway to
the former Yankee Grill restaurant, just south and east of the collision scene. The juveniles appeared
visibly upset and were crying. Van Cleave stopped and the juveniles asked for a ride home to the
Royal Hills apartments at 3000 Royal Hills Dr SE. She agreed and transported them. While en route,
the three juveniles in her vehicle spotted three additional involved juveniles walking southbound on
Talbot Road South near the intersection of Renton Village Place. Those juveniles also requested a
ride. Van Cleave transported all six juveniles to Building 39 of the Royal Hills Apartments and notified
a family member associated with unit#39-F of the collision.
Omar was transported by ambulance to Harborview Medical Center for further treatment. I contacted
Omar's father, "Aziz," by phone. He advised he would be leaving work in Tacoma and responding
directly to Harborview Medical Center.
The involved driver was not cited. The juveniles' actions of playing and running in the roadway, rather
than utilizing designated crosswalks, were the primary contributing factor to the collision.
I will review any available traffic camera footage for this intersection and upload any relevant video to
this case.
I certify (or declare) under penalty of perjury under the laws of the State of Washington that the
foregoing is true and correct.
Electronically signed by Officer M. Nugent#11498 7/9/2026 6:35 PM Renton, King County, WA.
