Brief Description of Project
The applicant proposes to remove one (23 caliper inch) Big Leaf maple, which is identified as dangerous
and in poor condition by City Arborist, Terry Flatley. The applicant is also proposing to prune large
sprout from another Big leaf maple based on Terry Flatley’s recommendations (see Exhibit

PURPOSE: Exempt activities provided with a letter of exemption from the Development Services
Administrator may intrude into a critical area or required buffer (Subject to any conditions or
requirements provided by the Administrator).
APPLICABILITY OF EXEMPTIONS: The following is a general list of activities that may be exempt from the
critical areas regulations. More specific descriptions of the activities are contained in the Critical Areas
Regulations. Some of the listed activities may not be exempt in certain critical areas. The Planning
Division will evaluate you request according to the City of Renton Critical Areas Regulations in RMC 4 -3-
050C, J, L, and N.

Conservation or preservation of soil, water, vegetation, fish, and other wildlife

Tree pruning shall be performed by a qualified ISA Certified Arborist, in accordance with ANSI
Standards, and in accordance with ISA Best Management Practices. A permit is required when
property owners perform tree pruning to street trees. Topping is prohibited.
A permit is required. Property owners may be required to plant a replacement tree after removal.
Tree planting shall be by permit only. For more information about the Urban Forestry Program

1. Big leaf maple stump cut at 10 feet. 6-8”diameter sprouts are poorly attached to stump. The
sprouts have failed over adjacent property. Please remove sprouts by September 6, 2018.
2. Big leaf maple, 23 inches diameter in poor condition. Prior large stem failure due to structural
defects. Please remove tree by September 6, 2018.
