AN AGREEMENT BETWEEN
COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS OF RENTON,
THE CITY OF RENTON,AND
THE RENTON SCHOOL DISTRICT
This agreement, dated / /� /Cj0 , is between the Renton School District(the"School
District"),the City of Rent n (t e "City"), and Communities In Schools of Renton (CISR), which are
collectively referred to herein as the"Parties."
I. RECITALS
1.1.Whereas,the School District is committed to establishing programs and efforts with other public
and private entities to address the needs of children that affect the provision of effective public
education;and
1.2.Whereas,the City is committed to developing and supporting programs and efforts with other
public and private entities to benefit children and their families in the community;and
1.3.Whereas,CISR was incorporated as a non-profit organization in 1995, and is governed by a
Board of Directors who represent the City,the School District, business, residents and other
service organizations in the Community; and
1.4.Whereas,the purposes of CISR are to:
1.4.1. Work directly inside the highest need schools to connect families to community
resources and provide direct services to promote stable environments and school
success;
1.4.2. Coordinate Integrated Student Supports to bring services and resources into schools to
benefit students at risk of dropping out; and
1.4.3. Recruit,train and coordinate community volunteers for mentoring and coordinate other
community involvement to support students and families in need.
1.5.Whereas,since 1995,the City and the School District contracted with CISR to provide annual
financial and in-kind support to CISR in exchange for its services to the community that benefit
both City and School District programs;and
1.6.Whereas, it is the Parties desire to update and replace the existing agreement to reflect changes
in financial and in-kind support from both the City and the School District; and
1.7. Whereas the governing bodies of each of the Parties authorized this Agreement;
Now,therefore, in consideration of these commitments and considerations,the parties agree as follows:
II. GENERAL PROVISIONS
2.1.The purpose of this agreement is to establish financial and in-kind commitments made by the
School District and the City to CISR and the commitments CISR makes in exchange for such
support.
2.2.This agreement shall be for the period commencing upon full execution, and ending December
31, 2020.
2.3.This agreement shall replace and terminate any previous agreements between the Parties that
relate to the mutual support of CISR—in particular the agreement between the Parties that is
dated January 1, 2002. However,this agreement shall not affect any separate agreements
between only two of the parties, including but not limited to any separate grant agreements
between CISR and the City.
2.4.This agreement may be extended beyond December 31, 2020, only upon written amendment
agreed to and signed by the Parties.
2.5.Any party may terminate this agreement by giving 90 days written notice to all parties involved.
2.6.All parties shall act in good faith and shall carry out the terms of this agreement as expeditiously
as possible.
2.7.Any disputes between the Parties regarding the application of this agreement shall be resolved
by negotiation and/or mediation within 30 days of any party providing written notice of dispute
to the other parties. No party shall file a lawsuit to enforce this agreement without having first
provided such notice and attempting in good faith to resolve the dispute by way of mutual
agreement.
III. CISR OBLIGATIONS
In exchange for the obligations agreed to herein by the School District and City,CISR agrees to the
following obligations:
3.1.On no less than an annual basis, CISR shall meet with the City and School District to discuss
mutually beneficial goals and objectives for the coming year,which may include but is not
limited to continued support and growth of the Elementary Liaisons,Student Success Liaisons,
and Mentor programs.
3.2.On an annual basis, CISR shall provide the City and School District with a report outlining its
outcomes for the prior year.
3.3.CISR will work to secure on-going financial resources from businesses,corporations, private
foundations and federal, state and local grantors. CISR agrees to also pursue any local, state and
national Communities In Schools fundraising projects.
3.4.CISR shall maintain insurance approved by the School District and City, including but not limited
to commercial general liability insurance and insurance covering the liability of its board of
directors.
IV. CITY OBLIGATIONS
In exchange for the obligations agreed to herein by the School District and CISR,the City agrees to
the following obligations:
4.1.Starting In 2019,the City will pay$25,000 to CISR,on an annual basis,to support its budget.
Each annual payment shall be made within 30 days of the City's receipt of the annual report
required by Section 3.2 of this agreement.
4.2.The City will provide in-kind operating support for CISR,including,but not limited to,the
following:
4.2.1 Mutually agreed share of mailing,printing,and copying services.
4.2.2. Mutually agreed office supplies,furniture and telecommunication services.
4.2.3. A separately negotiated lease for office space of approximately 1,000 sq.ft.,and
supplies/storage space of approximately 700 square feet.
V. SCHOOL DISTRICT OBLIGATIONS
In exchange for the obligations agreed to herein by the City and CISR,the School District agrees to
the following obligations:
5.1.Starting in 2019,the School District will pay$25,000 to CISR,on an annual basis,to support its
budget. Each annual payment shall be made within 30 days of the School District's receipt of
the annual report required by Section 3.2 of this agreement.
5.2 The School District will provide in-kind operating support for CISR, including,but not limited to,
the following:
5.2.1. Mutually agreed share of mailing,printing,and copying services.
5.2.2. Mutually agreed office supplies,furniture,office space,and telecommunication services.
5.2.3. Mutually agreed staff support in areas such as grant writing and volunteer coordination.
