1. CALL TO QRDER
Chair Kim Unti called the meeting to order at 5:32 p.m.

Members: Kim Unti, Lynne King, Erica Richey
Absent: Laurie Beden,Jaime Greene
City Staff: Maryjane Van Cleave, Roberta Graver
KCLS Staff: Amy Eggler
Guests: None
II. APPROVAL OF AGENDA
�ynne King made a motion to approve the agenda as presented. Erica Richey secanded. All
were in favor, motion carried, agenda approved.

Erica Richey made a motion to approve the May 2018 minutes as written, Lynne King
seconded. All were in favor, motion carried, minutes approved.
IV. ORAL COMMUNICATIONS/PUBLIC COMMENTS
None
V. CITY REPORT 1 Marviane Van Cleave
luneteenth event was sparsely attended while providing exceptional workshops, 3-3 Hoop
tournament and others. Ideas about partnering with KC�S for activities like a pre-event
workshop series and capstone workshop were discussed with a positive response.
Henry Moses Aquatic Center (HMAC) and the swimming beaches apen lune 23.
VI. KCLS REPORT1AmY E��ler
The Sunset Celebration on lune 16 was well attended and included a variety of activities and
public engagement. This was viewed as a positive, interconnected event between the city
and KCLS. Erica asked if Sunset Neighbarhoad Park areas (gazebo or plaza� will be rentable.
Maryjane said it may be in the future, after researching the community's needs and wants.
KCLS had their own luneteenth event at the youth detention center.

Reading Program started June 1 with programs for every age group; the Kickoff events are
6j21 at the Renton �ibrary, 6/22 at Highlands, and 6J28 at Skyway. The kickoff events
currently do not need volunteer support from this board.
VII. OLD BUSINESS
Sunset Celebration—Discussed during the KCLS and City Reports.
School Board Attendance— Decided that this board will not make a presentation to the Renton
School Board, but arrange to attend an upcoming board meeting ta rnake `a connection' with
them to let them know this group's purpose and work. Kim will contact Jaime to clarify an
'attendance' but not `presentation' at a future school board meeting. Erica asked if this group
could provide library promotion materials to the schools. Amy said they provide the schools
and teachers with a newsletter and materials. Discussian included possibly making a presence
at the annual school district New Teacher Breakfast to promote library resources.
Take and Read Library—The Renton Community Center(RCC) free library is being regularly
restocked. Extra books can be given to Maryjane to stock the HMAC lending boak cart. Board
members stated that they each have a generous supply af books or resources for books for
these free lending libraries. Kim will restock the libraries in August.
VIII. NEW BUSINESS
None.
IX. BOARD UPDATES AND PROGRESS
Presentation to City Council—Kim Unti will review and prepare a short presentation to the
City Council instead of Committee of the Whale. Maryjane will find a spot on the council
agenda in a September meeting. Another presentation may be scheduled to include Lisa
Bloom. Future presentations to cauncil could include a proclamation in April 2019 for
National Reading Week.
KCLS Youth Advisory- a youth member will be invited to attend a RLAB meeting in the fall.
X. ADJOURNMENT
Erica Richey made a motion to adjourn the June meeting. Lynne King seconded. All were in
favor, motion carried,the meeting adjourned at 6:17 p.m.
