DATE: October 22, 2018
TO: Ed Prince, Council President
Members of Renton City Council
FROM: Denis Law, Mayor
Robert Harrison, Chief Administrative Officer
SUBJECT: Administrative Report
Inclement Weather Response Reminder: The Public Works Department would like
to remind residents to help us prevent local residential street flooding by monitoring
catch basins near your home and keeping them clear of leaves and other debris.
Street sweepers are dispatched daily to clean up debris along major arterials. Also,
snow is not far away. Please remember that during snow and ice events, the
department sanders and snow plows are dispatched to keep major arterials drivable.
Visit our website at rentonwa.gov/snowroutes to view our snow route maps. It is
imperative that motorists do not park or abandon their vehicles within any portion
of the traffic lanes. Abandoned vehicles impair snow and ice removal and impact
response of emergency vehicles.
• The city is asking residents their thoughts on adding a bike sharing option through an
online survey. The 10-question survey will help the city determine the level of
interest and the concerns that need to be addressed before bike -sharing companies
are allowed to operate. The survey can be accessed at rentonwa.gov/bikesharing.
Coffee with a Cop returns! The mission of Coffee with a Cop is to break down
barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve by removing agendas
and allowing opportunities to ask questions, voice concerns, and get to know the
officers in your neighborhood. The next Coffee with a Cop event will take place on
Tuesday, October 23rd from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Hyatt Hotel, 1053 Lake
Washington Blvd North in Renton.
• The American Public Works Association (APWA) Washington Chapter held its annual
heavy equipment operators competition known as "ROADEO" on October 4th in
Wenatchee. The competition requires operators demonstrate their heavy
equipment skills navigating obstacle courses. Renton Public Works maintenance
workers proved to be among the best, placing in the top four finishers. These staff
members will compete in the National APWA ROADEO competition which will be
held in Seattle next fall. Congratulations to:
