Barbee Mill Bumpers
The proposed project is to install fifty new dock bumpers for the Barbee Mill Community
at 4151 Williams Avenue North in Renton, Washington. The need for the installation of
the bumpers is due to an observed safety issue at the site. Due to the height of the dock
above the water, lower profile boats, like ski boats, are able to go underneath the dock
while mooring and therefore causing a pinch point between the boat and the dock.
A shoreline substantial development permit and environmental review are required from
the City of Renton. The project site and adjacent properties are zoned as Residential
10du/ac (R-10). The site is on the shoreline of Lake Washington. The shoreline is
armored with a concrete and steel bulkhead. 4151 Williams Avenue North is currently
owned by the Barbee Mill Community Organization. The 30” tall vertical bumpers will
be installed equally spaced along the perimeter of the pier at all possible points of
moorage. The bumpers are mounted to the side of the pier and are flush with the top of
the dock walkway and extend down 30” toward the water. The estimated fair market
value of the dock bumpers is $11,745.
