SPECIFICATIONS OF THE CITY OF RENTON PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT AND THE 2016 EDITION OF
THE WSDOT/APWA STANDARDS AND SPECIFICATIONS, AS APPROVED AND MODIFIED BY THE CITY OF
RENTON IN THE RENTON STANDARD PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS. SOME STANDARD DETAIL DRAWINGS
MAY HAVE BEEN MODIFIED FOR THIS CONTRACT THE CONTRACTOR SHALL REFER TO DETAIL
DRAWINGS INCLUDED IN THE CONTRACT DOCUMENTS. A SET OF APPROVED PLANS SHALL BE
KEPT ON SITE AT ALL TIMES DURING CONSTRUCTION.

PRIOR TO BEGINNING CONSTRUCTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL MEET WITH THE CITY ENGINEER
FOR A PRE -CONSTRUCTION MEETING. AN APPROVED TRAFFIC CONTROL PLAN IS REQUIRED TO BE

CONFLICT WITH NEW STORM OR WASTEWATER AND THE UTILITY PROFILE CANNOT BE ADJUSTED,
CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH PSE FOR GAS RELOCATION (CONTACT PSE GAS
REPRESENTATIVE GLENN HELTON AT 425-559-4647). ALL COST FOR COORDINATION WITH PSE
FOR GAS SERVICE RELOCATION SHALL BE INCIDENTAL TO UTILITY CONSTRUCTION. IT IS ALSO
NOTED THAT PSE MAY HAVE PERFORMED SOME RELOCATIONS IN ANTICIPATION OF THIS PROJECT
AND CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH PSE REPRESENTATIVE TO DETERMINE ALL NEW GAS
LOCATIONS.
11.
STATIONS AND OFFSETS FOLLOW STREET R.O.W. CENTERLINE ALIGNMENTS DEFINED ON SURVEY.
12.
CONTRACTOR SHALL REPLACE SURVEY MONUMENTS WHERE SHOWN ON DRAWINGS IN ACCORDANCE
WITH SECTION 1-05.4 OF THE SPECIAL PROVISIONS AND CITY OF RENTON SURVEY STANDARDS.
ANY MONUMENTS NOT SPECIFICALLY CALLED OUT AS TO BE REPLACED ON DRAWINGS SHALL BE
REPLACED BY CONTRACTOR AT ITS OWN EXPENSE.

THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOT LEAVE STOCKPILED TRENCH EXCAVATION MATERIAL ON CITY STREETS
OUTSIDE OF WORK HOURS.
14.
SITE CONSTRUCTION LIMITS (PRESERVATION LINES) COINCIDE WITH CITY RIGHT-OF-WAY UNLESS
SHOWN OTHERWISE.
15.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL USE A VACUUM STREET SWEEPER TO REMOVE DUST AND DEBRIS FROM
PAVEMENT AREA AS DIRECTED BY THE ENGINEER. FLUSHING OF STREETS SHALL NOT BE
PERMITTED.
16.
BEFORE COMMENCEMENT OF TRENCHING, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A CATCH BASIN FILTER
FOR ALL DOWNHILL STORM DRAIN INLETS AND CATCH BASINS. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
PERIODICALLY INSPECT THE CONDITION OF ALL FILTERS AND REPLACE AS NECESSARY.
17.
PAVEMENT MARKINGS (E.G. LANE LINE BUTTONS OR PAINT, STOP B4RS CROSSWALKS, ETC.)
DAMMAGED OR REMOVED DURING CONSTRUCTION SHALL BE REPLACED IN KIND.
18.
TEMPORARY RESTORATION OF TRENCHES FOR OVERNIGHT USE SHALL BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USING
COLD MIX ASPHALT OR HMA. STEEL PLATES MAY BE USED OVERNIGHT TO COVER THE LAST
SECTION OF TRENCH. STEEL PLATES MUST BE PINNED DOWN AND ASPHALT RAMPS/WEDGES
MUST BE PLACED AROUND THE PLATES. STEEL PLATES SHALL NOT BE USED ON STEEP GRADES
OR WHERE STEEL PLATES PRESENT A ROADWAY HAZARD.
19.
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP PROJECT AREA OPEN TO TRAFFIC AT ALL TIMES, UNLESS
APPROVED BY THE CITY OF RENTON.
20.
CONSTRUCTION WORK SHALL BE FROM 7:00 AM TO 5:00 PM.

CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE NOTICE TO AFFECTED RESIDENTS A MINIMUM OF 24 HOURS IN
ADVANCE WHEN VEHICULAR ACCESS TO THEIR RESIDENCE WILL BE RESTRICTED.

WATER UTILITY GENERAL NOTES
1. ALL NEW WATER PIPE AND FITTINGS SHALL HAVE A FOAM PIPE PIG RUN THROUGH THEM BEFORE BEING
FLUSHED, DISINFECTED, AND PRESSURE TESTED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CITY OF RENTON
WATER MAINTENANCE DEPARTMENT TWO WEEKS BEFORE MAKING A CUT -IN CONNECTION TO AN EXISTING
WATER MAIN AND 5 DAYS BEFORE MAKING A CONNECTION TO A NEWLY CUT -IN TEE AND VALVE(S) ON THE
EXISTING MAIN. ALL PIPE AND FITTINGS NOT TO BE DISINFECTED IN PLACE SHALL BE SWABBED WITH 1%
CHLORINE SOLUTION PRIOR TO INSTALLATION.
2. AFTER DISINFECTING THE WATERMAIN, DISPOSE OF CHLORINATED WATER BY DISCHARGING TO THE NEAREST
OPERATING SANITARY SEWER.

STORM WATER UTILITY GENERAL NOTES
1. STORM SEWER LENGTHS ARE MEASURED BETWEEN CENTERS OF MANHOLES AND CATCH BASINS UNLESS
OTHERWISE NOTED. PIPE SLOPES AND INVERT ELEVATIONS ARE MEASURED FROM FACE OF STRUCTURE AND
MAY DIFFER FROM CENTER -OF -STRUCTURE MEASUREMENTS.
2. EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE NOTED, CATCH BASIN AND MANHOLE RIM ELEVATIONS GIVEN ARE APPROXIMATE.
FINAL ELEVATIONS SHALL MATCH FINAL GRADE.

EITHER INSTALL NEW WATER SUCH THAT THE EXISTING WATER CAN BE ABANDONED AND REMOVED, OR IF

6. WHEREVER NEW WATER SERVICES ARE INSTALLED IN ADVANCE OF NEW STORM, CONTRACTOR SHALL
ENSURE THE DEPTH OF WATER SERVICE WILL NOT CONFLICT WITH NEW STORM. WHERE ACTIVE WATER
SERVICES THAT HAVE NOT YET BEEN REPLACED ARE IN CONFLICT WITH THE NEW STORM, THEY SHALL BE
RAISED OR LOWERED (BY EXPOSING MORE OF THE WATER SERVICE LINE TO ALLOW MORE VERTICAL
DEFLECTION) OR SHALL HAVE A TEMPORARY SPLICE TO THE SERVICE LINE TO RAISE OR LOWER IT TO
