HomeMy WebLinkAboutProclmation - Renton to be an Inclusive City , � Denis Law Mayor >. � : �1'rocCamdtion `iNhereas,the City of Renton's business plan and mission statement adopted in 2012 by the City Council stresses our commitment to building an inclusive city with opportunities for all;and `Gl�hereas, Renton believes that an inclusive community is fundamental in building a supportive community, and promotes mutual respect and appreciation for all people represented within its community; and `i�l�hereas, Renton believes the diversity of backgrounds, perspectives, and experiences of all people makes our city, community,and nation richer and stronger,and Renton's vibrancy and sense of community are stronger for our diversity and shared values of acceptance and respect;and `GVFiereas, Renton is committed to being a welcoming place to live,work, learn,and play that highly values diversity and is respectful,fair, and inclusive; and `G1�hereas, Renton is committed to protecting and serving everyone who resides in,works in,or visits Renton without discrimination based on race, religion,color, national origin,sex,age, income or economic status, political affiliation, military status,sexual orientation,or physical, mental,or sensory ability;and `iNhereas, Renton believes in the dignity,equality,and constitutional and civil rights of all people,and will not tolerate hate,discrimination, harassment,or behavior that creates fear, isolation,or intimidation; and `G1�hereas, City of Renton employees and elected leaders strongly support these principles and strive to embody these ideals every day as they provide critical services such as police,fire, parks, public works,and much more in an inclusive and equitable manner to all residents,visitors,and businesses in Renton;and `iNhereas,the safety of al(of Renton's residents is the city's top priority; a person's right to file a police report,participate in police-community activities,or otherwise benefit from police services is not contingent upon citizenship or immigration status and no person should be afraid to call 911 for fear their residency will be questioned, because Renton's police and public employees do not ask a person's immigration status; Now, therefore, I, Denis Law, Mayor of the City of Renton,do hereby proclaim �,enton to de an Inclusive City and invites the community to come together to support the shared values of inclusion,equity and diversity.
