Driving Range with cart storage facility • 15,500 sq. ft. Clubhouse with full service pro shop, restaurant, bar, and banquet facility All maintained by Golf Course staff and a Facilities custodian 5 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) Maplewood Golf Course is operated as an Enterprise Fund – Fees collected support ALL operations, including: • Internal Service costs paid to General Fund – for payroll, IT support, etc. • All salaries and wages • Utilities • Course maintenance costs • Clubhouse and Driving Range building maintenance costs • All Capital/Major Maintenance costs (CIP)  Funded from Green Fee revenue account - $50,000 annually • Merchandise inventory • Annual Debt Service payment ($410,000) from clubhouse construction (Loan is mature 2015) • All supplies - Range balls, fertilizer, sand, maintenance equipment, etc. • Maplewood is open 7 days a week –hours vary through the year, the only day scheduled to close - Christmas Day. 6 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) Pro Shop / Administrative: Managing the revenue sources effectively • Green Fees – includes tournaments, daily fee, leagues and club members •53,000 – 60,000 rounds played annually • Driving Range – 30 stalls covered & heated, 90,000 buckets sold annually 7 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) • Power Carts (fleet of 50) • Merchandise inventory and costs • Manage the Concessionaire lease requirements • Cash counting and reconciling all revenue transactions 8 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) • Golf course management coordinates all marketing pieces • Joint Marketing pieces w/Concessionaire • Including, City’s website, golf periodicals, email blasts, special offers/events to club members and seasonal promotions Marketing: 9 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) Manage Expenses: Moles!! The past 13 years, independent water quality sampling is performed annually from where the creek enters and exits the golf course. NO chemicals have been detected in the creek. Protecting the City’s Aquifer: 16 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) •Original Water Right Claim for Surface Water for irrigating golf course out of Maplewood Creek. •Temporary Use Permit to drill test wells •Move from surface water to ground water use. •2003 DOE noted only a ‘Claim’ on the water right and needs to be ‘Validated’. •Performed historical research, provided documentation, provided water use limits for annual irrigation •2006 Hired a Water Rights attorney •Since 2010 waiting on final decision Water Rights: 17 AGENDA ITEM #1. a) • Golf course earned “Certified Audubon Cooperative Sanctuary” status in May of 2009 - the 12th course in the state to earn certification– and continues to earn re-certification to current date.
