Mayor Law appoints Ms. Kimberly Patterson to the Renton Municipal Arts Commission for a term expiring
12/31/19 (position previously held by Aaron Blalack).

SUBJECT:Proposed Appointment to the Renton Municipal Arts
Commission
The Renton Municipal Arts Commission currently has a position open,one previously
held by a Commissioner whose uncompleted term would have expired at the end of
201%A recent application submitted to your office and forwarded to the Commission
proved to be from a highly qualified candidate,Kimberly Patterson.
The Commissioners reviewed Ms.Patterson’s application and were able to meet her at
the July RMAC meeting.I was in attendance and also met her there.
A resident of Renton,Ms.Patterson has expressed interest in furthering the RMAC goal
of raising awareness of art and providing opportunities for personal creativity in the
Renton community.
She is highly qualified to fill several necessary roles with the Commission and the
Commissioners are enthusiastic about her possible appointment to the RMAC.
The RMAC recommended that Kimberly Patterson’s name be forwarded to you for your
consideration.The Commission approved the recommendation following its meeting of
July 11,2017.
In concurrence with the Renton Municipal Arts Commission,I request that you forward
the name of Kimberly Patterson to the Renton City Council with your recommendation
for her appointment to the Renton Municipal Arts Commission to serve a term expiring
at the end.

I am interested in the Municipal Arts Commission because I
recognize the importance of fostering a creative community
that celebrates diversity through art.I would love to apply
my knowledge of public administration and community
development to the Municipal Arts Commission.
Currently,I work directly under Mayor Murray’s chief of
staff and deputy mayor.My role has provided firsthand
experience in collaborating with senior leadership and
influential members of the community.I’ve had ampleReasOnsopportunitiestoworkoncross-functional teams addressing
top priorities;Homelessness Revenue Task Force,designating
Seattle as a Sanctuary City,LGBTQ Task Force,and the
Chinatown International District Task Force.
