SUBJECT: Community Center Exercise Equipment Condition
The condition of the four treadmills at the Renton Community Center (RCC), was referred to
Community Services Administration and to the Community Services Committee on January 8,
2018
The treadmills are heavily used by the public and the Recreation division frequently schedules
repairs on this equipment.
There is currently one account for all citywide maintenance and replacement for fitness
equipment for both the RCC and City Hall fitness rooms (and previously all Fire Stations). The
current annual budget in that account is $16,000. Due to the many pieces of equipment at RCC
and City Hall, we repair/maintain as much as we can, prior to full replacement.
City hall does not charge for use of its fitness room. RCC does charge for use of the fitness
center and those fees are as followed:
• Yearly pass $200R / $240NR
• One month pass $20R / $24NR
• Daily drop-in $2 student & senior / $3 for adults
• Senior fitness drop-in $1 (Monday – Friday 6a-9:30a)
The drop-in rates are the most popular and also the least expensive, so very little revenue is
coming in to offset the cost for repair and replacement of equipment.
Staff has secured quotes to replace the four treadmills and will be forwarding a
recommendation to the Community Services Committee to purchase four new replacement
treadmills for the Renton Community Center fitness room.
