Follow up to 5/9/2016 Finance Committee;
1. E-One, $85,699.29, “Perform accident repairs to Pumper F114.” – What were the
circumstances of the accident? Over this past winter, a pickup truck collided with the
pumper near FS#13 in icy conditions. Since the pumper truck is new, it was sent back to the
manufacturer in Florida where it is being repaired. It should be back in Renton and in-
service within the next week or so. Costs for repair are covered by the City’s insurance and
the City’s Risk Manager is in the process of getting full reimbursement from the at-fault
driver’s insurance.
2. Matthew Gagnier, $4,145.79, “Settlement to Matthew and Alayna Gagnier. Water meter
was defective and city billed them incorrectly and they incurred repair charges as well.” –
What happened? There was a water meter at 5110 NE. 23rd Street that showed continues
consumption. The City notified the customer on 4/14/16 that they may have a potential leak
on their private water line. The owner contracted with a plumber to make repairs, but the
plumber called the City back on 4/18/16 and said that after they replaced the water service
and turned the water off to the water meter, our meter kept running. The City verified that
the water meter was defective and still running even when the water was off and
immediately replaced the broken meter. The settlement was to reimburse the home owner
for the unnecessary repair expenses that were incurred. A small adjustment will be made on
the customer’s May utility bill to account for any excess consumption related to the
defective meter.
