SUBJECT/TITLE: Compensate Seethu Babu as a Surface Water Utility Civil Engineer II
at Step E of Grade a25
RECOMMENDED ACTION: Refer to Finance Committee
DEPARTMENT: Utility Systems Division
STAFF CONTACT: Ron Straka, Surface Water Utility Engineering Manager
EXT.: 7248
FISCAL IMPACT SUMMARY:
This position is budgeted at Step E for the 2016 and 2017-2018 budget years. This request creates no
additional increase in the Public Works Department’s Surface Water Utility salaries and wages budget line
item.
SUMMARY OF ACTION:
The Surface Water Utility is filling a vacant Civil Engineer II position that resulted due to the promotion of Gary
Fink into the Civil Engineer III position that was previously held by Edward Mulhern who resigned in July.
Seethu Babu is a very talented professional with over eight years of experience working for private civil
engineering consultant firms as a project engineer specializing in stormwater engineering and design for
municipal and private development projects. Ms. Babu has a Bachelor’s Degree of Technology in Civil
Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay and a Master’s Degree in Hydrology and
Environmental Engineering from the University of Florida. In addition she holds a Professional Engineer
license in Washington.
Through the applicant interview and selection process, Seethu Babu stood out as the most qualified and best
applicant for the Surface Water Utility Civil Engineer II positon. If hired she would bring to the City of Renton
an experienced employee who would be a valuable technical resource and provide quality service to the
community.
It is our opinion that we would not be able to find a more qualified individual with the experience, skills, and
abilities to fill the position. Therefore we are requesting to compensate Ms. Seethu Babu at Step E of Grade
a25 effective January 3, 2017.
