August6,2014G-3710ProposedShortPlat,3413NE7thSt.Renton,WashingtonPage5encroachuponadjacentpropertiesthenitmaybenecessarytoobtainanexcavationeasementorplanfortemporaryshoringatthoselocations.Permanentcutandfillslopesatthesiteshouldbeinclinednosteeperthan2H:lv.Surfacerunoffshouldnotbeallowedtoflowuncontrolledoverthetopofslopesintotheexcavatedarea.Duringwetweatherexposedcutslopesshouldbecoveredwithplasticsheetingduringconstructiontominimizeerosion.4.2.2StructuralFillAllfillmaterialusedtoachievedesignsiteelevationsbelowthebuildingareasandbelownon-structurallysupportedslabs,parkinglots,sidewalks,driveways,andpatios,shouldmeettherequirementsforstructuralfill.Duringwetweatherconditions,materialtobeusedasstructuralfillshouldhavethefollowingspecifications:1.Befreedraining,granularmaterialcontainingnomorethanfive(5)percentfines(siltandclay-sizeparticlespassingtheNo.200meshsieve);2.Befreeoforganicmaterialandotherdeleterioussubstances,suchasconstructiondebrisandgarbage;3.Haveamaximumsizeofthree(3)inchesindiameter.Allfillmaterialshouldbepbcedatorneartheoptimummoisturecontent.Theoptimummoisturecontentisthewatercontentinsoilthatenablesthesoiltobecompactedtothehighestdrydensityforagivencompactioneffort.Themajorityofthesurficialsitesoilswillbemoisture-sensitivebecausetheyconsistoffinesiltySANDsoils.Thesitesoils’moisturesensitivitymaymakethemunusableasstructuralfilliftheyaretobeplaced/compactedasstructuralfillduringthewetterportionsoftheyear.Alternatively,animportedgranularfillmaterialmayprovidemoreuniformityandbeeasiertocompacttotherequiredstructuralfillspecification.Iftheon-sitesoilsaretobeusedasengineeredsinicturalfill,itwillbenecessarytosegregatethetopsoilandanyotherorganic-ordebris-containingsoil,becausesuchsoilswouldbeunsuitableGEOGroupNorthwest,Inc.
