I GENERAL NOTES
1. CONSTRUCTION STANDARDS
ALL MATERIALS, WORKMANSHIP, DESIGN, AND CONSTRUCTION SHALL CnNFORM TO THE CONSTRUCTION DRAWINGS,
TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS, THE UNIFORM BUILDING CODE (1997 EDITION) AS AMENDED BY CHAPTER 51 -40 OF
THE WAC THE RENTON MUNICIPAL CODE, AND THE CITY OF RENTON STANDARD PLANS & SPECIFICATIONS.
2. CONSTRUCTION SAFETY
THE CONTRACTOR SHALL TAKE ALL NECESSARY PRECAUTIONS TO PROTECT THE PUBLIC AND PREVENT NUISANCES WHILE
PERFORMING CONSTRUCTION WORK ON THIS PROJECT. CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE TEMPORARY BRACING FOR THE
STRUCTURE AND STRUCTURAL COMPONENTS UNTIL ALL FINAL CONNECTIONS HAVE BEEN COMPLETED IN ACCORDANCE
WITH THE PLANS.
3. EXISTING LIFT STATION AND UTILITIES
a. EXISTING LIFT STATION: DURING CONSTRUCTION THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE TEMPORARY BRACING, PROVIDE
FOR NORMAL OPERATION, AND PROVIDE ACCESS TO THE EXISTING LIFT STATION UNTIL THE PROPOSED LIFT STATION IS
OPERATIONAL AND APPROVED IN WRITING BY THE OWNER.
b. ALL UTILITIES: EXISTING UTILITIES INDICATED ANYWHERE ON THE DRAWINGS HAVE BEEN PL 0 ED FROM THE BEST
INFORMATION AVAILABLE TO THE ENGINEER AND SURVEYOR. THE SOURCE OF INFORMATION GENERALLY CONSISTS OF
CONSTRUCTION RECORDS, UTILITY LOCATES, AND OTHER DATA OBTAINED VERBALLY FROM OFFICIALS ASSOCIATED WITH
THE PARTICULAR UTILITY. OWNER AND ENGINEER DO NOT GUARANTEE NOR ASSUME RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE
ACCURACY OF THIS INFORMATION. IT IS UNDERSTOOD THAT OTHER ABOVE GROUND AND UNDERGROUND FACILITIES
NOT SHOWN ON THE DRAWINGS MAY BE ENCOUNTERED DURING THE COURSE OF THE WORK. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
VERIFY THE TRUE AND CORRECT LOCATION OF EXISTING UTILITIES TO AVOID DAMAGE OR DISTURBANCE. THE
CONTRACTOR SHALL REPAIR ALL DAMAGED 'UTILITIES IMMEDIATELY.
4. PRE - CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE
A PRE - CONSTRUCTION CONFERENCE AND TWENTY -FOUR HOUR NOTICE WILL BE REQUIRED PRIOR TO STARTING
CONSTRUCTION.
5. PERMITS AND INSPECTIONS
a. PERMITS: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL SECURE ALL NECESSARY PERMITS PRIOR TO STARTING CONSTRUCTION. SEE
SPECIFICATIONS FOR FURTHER INFORMATION REGARDING PERMITS.
b. INSPECTION: THE CONTRACTOR SHALL OBTAIN ALL BUILDING DEPARTMENT 'N PECTIONS DURING CONSTRUCTION. SOME
OF THE INSPECTIONS WILL BE PERFORMED BY A REPRESENTATIVE OF THE CIT( OF RENTON. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL
NOTIFY THE REPRESENTATIVE 24 HOURS IN ADVANCE OF ANY BACKFILLING OR COVERING OF CONSTRUCTION.
6. MAINTAINING LIFT STATION OPERATION
THE EXISTING LIFT STATION SHALL NOT BE TAKEN OUT OF SERVICE UNTIL THE LIFT STATION CONSTRUCTED UNDER THIS
CONTRACT HAS BEEN INSTALLED, TESTED, AND APPROVED IN WRITING BY THE OWNER. A TEMPORARY PUMPING SYSTEM
CAN BE INSTALLED DURING CONSTRUCTION TO ALLOW FOR CONSTRUCTION OF THE PROPOSED LIFT STATION TO BE
COMPLETED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROVIDE A PLAN TO THE OWNER FOR APPROVAL THAT DETAILS THE PROPOSED
METHOD OF KEEPING THE LIFT STATION OPFRATIONAI DURING THE CONSTRUCTION WORK. INSTALLATION OF THE
TEMPORARY PUMPING SYSTEM SHALL NOT BEGIN UNTIL WRITTEN APPROVAL HAS BEEN OBTAINED FROM THE OWNER. A
HIGH LEVEL ALARM FLOAT SHALL BE CONNECTED TO THE EXISTING TELEMETRY SYSTEM FOR PROVIDING NOTIFICATION TO
THE OWNER IF THE TEMPORARY SYSTEM HAS FAILED. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL BE AVAILABLE TO RESPOND TO ANY
TEMPORARY SYSTEM FAILURE.
7. DEWATERING
IT HAS BEEN ANTICIPATED DURING THE DESIGN PHASE THAT DEWATERING WILL NOT BE REQUIRED DURING THE LIFT
STATION IMPROVEMENTS; THEREFORE, THE PLANS AND SPECIFICATIONS DO NOT IDENTIFY ANY DEWATERING DESIGN. IF IT
IS DETERMINED BY THE CITY DURING CONSTRUCTION THAT A DEWATERING SYSTEM IS REQUIRED TO STABILIZE THE SOILS
FOR CONSTRUCTION, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL DETERMINE THE SCOPE, TYPE, SIZE, QUALITY, METHOD OF INSTALLATION,
OPERATION, AND REMOVAL OF THE DEWATERING SYSTEM NEEDED TO KEEP THE EXCAVATION SITE DEWATERED.
CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING A METHOD OF STORMWATER REMOVAL AND CONTROL TO KEEP
EXCAVATION PITS DRY.
8. CONTRACTOR INITIATED CHANGES
CHANGES SHALL BE SUBMITTED IN WRITING TO THE OWNER FOR APPROVAL PRIOR TO FABRICATION OR
CONSTRUCTION. CHANGES SHOWN ON SHOP DRAWINGS ONLY, WILL NOT SATISFY THIS REQUIREMENT.
9. CONSTRUCTION EXCLUSION PERIOD
NO MAJOR CONSTRUCTION THAT COULD IMPEDE THE FLOW OF TRAFFIC ON TALBOT CREST DRIVE SHALL BEGIN BEFORE
JANUARY 10, 2000.
10. H -20 TRAFFIC RATING
ALL STRUCTURES, MANHOLES, VAULTS, HANDHOLES, LIDS, COVERS, AND ACCESS HATCHES INSTALLED THIS PROJECT
SHALL BE H -20 TRAFFIC RATED.
