GENERAL NOTES:
(1) All construction obeli be in accordance with the "1994 Standard
Specifications for Rood. Bridge and Municipal Construction' prepared by
W.S.D.O.T., and the American Public Works Association (APWA), as amended
by the City of Renton Deportment of Public Works.
(2) All construction shall be in accordance with the King County Code (KCC)
Rood Standards (KCRS), and the King County Council's condition of
preliminary subdivision approval. It shall be the sole responsibility of the
applicant and the professional civil engineer to correct any error, omission,
or variation from the oboes requirements found in these pions. All
corrections shotl be of no additional coat or liability of King County.
(3) The design elements within these plans have been reviewed according to
the King County Deportment of Development and Environmental Services
(ODES) Engireerin9 Review checklist. Some elements may have been
ovriooked or missed by the ODES plan reviewer. Any varioncs from
adopted standards is not allowed unless specifically approved by King
County. prior to construction.
(4) Approval of this rood, grading, and drainage plan does not constitute on
approval of any other construction (e.g. domestic water conveyance, :ewer
conveyance, gas, e;ectrical, etc.)
(S) Before any construction or development activity o preconstruction
meeting must be halo between the ooES': Development Inspection Unit. the
Applicant, and the Applicant's Construction Representative.
(6) A copy of these approved pions must be on the job site whenever
construction is in progress.
(7) Construction noise shall be limited as per King County Code (Section
12.88), normally this is 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.
on weekends.
(8) It shall be the Applicant's /Contractor's responsibility to obtain all
construction easements necessary before initiating off-site work within the
rood sigh ts- of- wo y.
(9) Franchised utilities or other installation: that are not shown on these
approved plops obeli not be constructed unless on approved set of plops
that most all requirements of KCRS Chapter 8 are submitted to the ODES':
Development Inspection Unit three days prior to construction.
(10) Datum shall be KCRS unless otherwise approved by the ODES.
(11) Ground water system construction shall be within o right -of -way or
appropriate drainage easement, but not underneath the roadway section.
All ground water systems must be constructed in accordance with Section
81 3.02 of the APWA Standard Specifications.
(12) All utility trenches shall be bockf711sd and compacted to 95% density.
(13) All roadway subgrode shall be bockfilled and compacted to 95li density.
WSDOT 2 -06.3.
(14) Open cutting of existing roadways is not allowed unless specifically
approved by the ODES and noted on these approved plops. Any open cut
shall be restored in accordance with KCRS 8.03 (8) 3.
(15) The Contractor shall be responsible for providing adequate safeguards,
safety devices, protective equipment, flogger:. and any other actions needed
to protect the life, health, and safety of the public and to protect property
In connection with the performance of work covered by the Contractor.
Any work within the traveled right -of -way that may interrupt normal traffic
flow shall require of least one flogger for each lone of traffic affected. All
sections of WSOOT Standard Specifications 1 -07.23 - Traffic Control, shall
apply.

SANITARY SEWER NOTES:
(1) All work materials shall be in conformance with the standards and specifications of
the City of Renton Utility Deportment and the latest edition of the WSDOT /APWA
Standards and Specifications.
(2) The hours of work in the street right of way shall be limited to 8:30 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. on weekdays unless otherwise approved in writing by the Planning /Building /Public
Works Deportment at 235 -2620. All street closures, partial or full, shall be approved by
the Planning/Building/Public Works Deportment 72 hours in advents. The Police
Deportment. Fire Department. and 911 shall be notified 24 hog s in advance of any work
In the right of way.
(3) All construction shall be in accordance with "Stondord Specifications for Municipal
Public Works Construction* prepared by Washington State Chapter American Public Works
Association, latest edition (APWA) and City of Renton Standard Specification :.

Department 24 hour: in advance of bockfilling all construction.

(7) It shall be the responsibility of the contractor to obtain street use and any other
related permits prior to any construction.
(8) Pions approved by the City of Renton, Public Works Deportment, shall take
precedence over all other pions.

(10) The contractor shall provide the City of Renton with on os -built drawing of the
sanitary sewer system which has been stomped and signed by o liters :eel professional
engineer or licensed profsssionol surveyor.
(11) Bockfill shall be placed equally on both sides of the pipe in layers with a loose
overage depth of 6 inches, maximum depth of a inches, thoroughly tamping each toyer
to 95 percent of maximum density. These compacted layers must extend for one pipe
diameter on each side of the pipe or to the side of the trench. Materials to complete
the fill over pipe shall be the some as described.
(12) Open Cut rood crossings for utility trenches on existing traveled roadway shall be
backfill•d with crushed rock and mechanically compacted. Cuts into the existing asphalt
shall be neotlin• cut with sow in o continuous lies. A temporary mix patch must be
placed immediately after bockfill and compaction. A permanent hot mix gulch shall be
placed within 10 dogs and shill be per City of Renton currant standards.
(13) Datum shall be City of Renton. U.S.C. and G.S.
(14) All disturbed arses shall be seeded and mulched or otherwise stabilized to the
satisfaction of the Department for the prevention of on-site erosion otter the completion
of construction.
(15) All pipe and appurtenances shall be laid on o properly prepared foundation in
accordance with Section 7- 02.3(1) of the current State of Washington Standard
Specifications for Rood and bridge Construction. This shall include necessary leveling of
the trench bottom or the top of the foundation material as well as placement and
compaction of required bedding material to uniform grade so that the entire length of
the pipe will be supported on a uniformly dense unyielding bass. Pipe bedding shell be
pea grovel 6" oboes and below the pipe.
(16) Sanitary sewer pips shall be polyvinyl chloride (PVC) rubber gosketsd ASTkI Q 3034.
SOR 35, or ductile iron cloys 50.
(17) In unimproved areas, manhole to extend minimum 6 inch and maximum 18 inch
above finished grade.
In paved ores, cover must slope in all directions to match paving.

wrapped per ANSI /AWWA C105/A21.5 -93 Standards.
(5) Cost iron and ductile 'ran fittings shall be cement lined, pressure rated as noted on
pions, and in accordance with ANSI /AWWA C110/A21.10 -87. Cement lining shill be in
accordance with ANSI /AWWA C104/A21.4 -90. If fittings are 3 inches to 12 inches in
diameter and have mechanical joints, the fittings shill be in accordance with either
ANSI /AWWA C110/A21.10 -87 or ANSI /AWWA C153/A21.53 -94. 3 inch to 12 inch diameter
fittings which have mechanical joints and /or flanged joints shod be in accordance with •
ANSI /AWWA C110/I►21.10.57 or o combination of ANSI /AWWA C110/A21.10.87 and
ANSI/AWWA C153/A21-53-94 such that the portion of the fitting with o mechanical
joint( :), may be in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C153/A21.53 -94 and that portion of the
fitting with flanged joint(s) shell be in accordance with ANSI/AWWA C110/A21.10 -87.
Acceptance testing in accordance with section 53.53 of ANSI /AWWA C153/A21-53-94 or
with section 10 -4.3 of ANSI /AWWA C110/A21.10 -87 shoil be obtained by the contractor
and transmitted to the owner.
(6) Gate valves shall be iron body, bronzed- mounted, double disc with bronze wedging
device and C} -ring stuffing bar (AWWA C500) or of resilient seated type (AWWA C509).
Valves shell be designed for o minimum water operating pressure of 200 PSI. Gate valves
shall be Clow List 14. Mueller Company NO A2380, or V dC H. All vetoes 12" in diameter
and larger, shill be installed in o vault. See water standard detail for 12' Gate Valve
Assembly Vault and 1` 6y9oss Installation.
(7) Fire hydrants shill be Corey type (opening with the pressure) or compression type
(opening against pressers) conforming to AWWA C- 502 -85 with o 6 inch mechanical
joint inlet and o main valve opening (M.V.O.) of 5-1/4 inches, two 2 -1/2 inch Koss
nozzles with Notional Standard Threads 7-1/2 threads per inch and one 4 inch pumper
nozz +es with the new Seattle Pattern 6 threads per inch, 50 depress V. Threads, outside
diameter of mot• tread 4.875 and root diameter 4.6263. Hydrants shall have a 1-1/40
pentagon operating nut opened by turning counter clockwise (left). The two 2-1/2" boss
nozzles shall be fitted with cost limn threaded cops with operating nut of the some
design and proportions as the hydrant stem nut. Cops shoN be fitted with suitable
neoprsn• gaskets for positive water tightness under test pressures. The 4" pumper nozzle
shatl be fitted with o Stortz adopter, 4" Seattle Thread x S~ Stortz. Stortz adapter shall
.be forged and /or extruded 6061 -T6 aluminum aJtoy, hordcoat anodized. Threaded end
portion shall have no tugs and 2 set strives 180 degrees apart. Stortz foes to be rrlstaJ,
no gasket to weather. Stortz cop to have synthetic molded rubber gasket, and shall be
attached to hydrant adopter with 1/8" tooted stainless steel aircraft cable. Fire hydrants
shall be installed per City of Renton Standard Dotal for fire hydrants. latest revisions.
(8) All water main 10 inches and smaller to maintain o minimum cover of 36 inches
below finish prods. All water main 12 inches and torpor shill be of a minimum of 48
inches below finish prods. Where utility conflicts occur, water mains are to be lowered to
clear.
(9) All water mains six (6) inches in diameter and larger shaft be cleaned with pipe
cleaning PIGS prior to disinfection. The Poiy Pigs shall be Girard Industries Aqua
Swab -AS or approved equal, Z lb/cu ft. density foam with 90A durometer urethane
rubber coating on the rear of "PIGS only. "PIGS~ shall be cylinder shaped with bullet nose
or square end. The City will assist the Contractor who will perform the cleaning operation.
o) All water mains and services shall be pressers tested to o minimum of 200 PSI or
50 PSI over operating pressers, in accordance with the specifications of the City of
Renton and the Washington Slots Health Deportment. All pressure testing shall be done in
the presents of a representative of the City of Renton. The quantity of water lost from
the mein shall not exceed the number of gallons per hour as listed in City of Renton
Standard Pions ac Specifications 7- 11.3(11). The loss in pressure shall not exceed 5 psi
during the 2 hour test period. b) All water mains and services shall be disinfected by the
injection of o 50 ppm (minimum concentration) chlorins /water solution. Dry Calcium
Hypochlorits shall NOT be placed in the pips as laid. Chlorins shill be metered/injected in
accordance with Section 7- 11.3(12)E or 7- 11.3(12)F of the Standard Specifications
referenced in 1 above.
(10) A preconstruction conference is required prior to any construction. A minimum of 3
three) working days notice is required for scheduling. prior to scheduling the proton o
per, -,it information sheet must be supplied to the Utility Engineer's Office. Twenty -four
bout Aics will be required prior to starting new construction.
(11 1 It shall be the contractor's responsibility to ester• all necessary permit; prior to

until all service agreements, meter applications, construction permits, and payment of

the Department of Public Works. Ail necessary excavation and materials to be supplied by
the contractor and be on-site prior to City notifications.
(14) Inspection will be accomplished by o representative of the City of Renton. It shall be
the contractor's responsibility to notify Development Services 24 hours in advance of
bockfillinq all construction. The contractor as well as the Engineers shall keep as-built
drawings.
(15) Contractor to provide plugs and temporary blow -off assemblies for testing and
purity acceptance prior to find tie-in.
(16) All joint restraint systems (shackle rods, nuts, belts,, etc.) shall be as manufactured
by the Star Manufacturing Company of Cdumbu• Ohio or equal approved in writing by the
Department of Public Works.
(17) Asphalt and concrete street paving shall be sowcut to a minimum depth of two
Inches. 01 mot streets may be spode cut. All surface concrete, pavement, sidewalks,
.;orb, gutters, and driveway approaches shall be sawcut to o minimum depth of two
Inches or removed to on existing expansion joint."
(16) A temporary cold mix asphalt patch shall be placed on the day of initial excavation
with a permanent, sealed patch to be placed, to City of Renton policy, within ten days.

(19) For City projects such as telemetry conduit, the PVC pips used shall be schedule 40
M unimproved areas and schedule 80 under improved areas.

(8) Gross seed may be applied by hydroseeding. The gross seed mixture, other than -
City of Renton approved standard mixes. shall be submitted by o Landscape Architect
and approved by the Deportment of Public Works, Surface Water Utility.
(9) All pips and appurtenances shalt be told on o properly prepared foundation in
accordance with Section 7- 02.3(1) of the current State of Washington Standard
Specification for Rood and bridge Construction. This shell include necessary leveling of
the trench bottom Or the top of the foundation materiel as well as placement and
compaction of required bedding material to uniform grade so that the entire length of
the pipe will be supported on o uniformly dense unyielding bole. All pipe bedding sl+ou
be APWA Class *Co. with the exception of PVC pips. All trench bodcfiN shots be
compacted to minimum 95% for pavement and structural fill and 90% otherwise per
ASTV D- 1557 -70. Poo growl bedding shill be 6" over and under P.V.C. pipe.
(10) Galvanized steel pips and aluminized steel pips for all drainage facilities shall have
asphalt treatment #1 or better inside and outside.
(11) Structures shall not be permitted within 10 foil of the spring fine of any storm
drainage pipe, or 15 fast from the top of any channel book.
(12) AA catch basin grates shall be dspresssd 0.10 feet below pavement level.
(13) Open cut rood crossings throes existing public right of way will not be allowed
unless specifically approved by the Cit y of Renton Administrator , Department of
Planning/Building/Public Works.
(14) Rock for erosion protection of roadside ditches, where required, shall be of sound
quarry rock placed to a depth of 1 foot and must mast the following specifications:
4•- 8'/402 -70X poising: 2` -4' rock /30X -40X passing; and -2" rock /10X-20X
passing.
(1 S) AN building downspouts and footing drains shall be connected to the storm
drainage system, unless approved by the Department of Development Services, Plan
Reviewer or Surface Water Utility. An accurately dimensioned Certified vs -built drawing
of this drainage system will be submitted to the City of Renton upon completion.
x(16) Issuance of the Building or Construction Permit by the City of Renton doss not
relieve the owner of the continuing legal obligation and /or liability connected with
storm sestets water disposition. Further, the City of Renton does not accept any

pion by the Traffic Engineering Division of the Department of Public Works. All sections
of the W. S.D.O. T. Standard Specifications 1- 07 -23, Traffic Control, shell apply.

(6) A copy of these approved pions must be on the job site whenever
construction is in progress.
(7) Construction noise shall be limited as per King County Code (Section
12.88), normally this is 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. weekdays and 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.

SANITARY SEWER NOTES:
(1) All work materials shall be in conformance with the standards and specifications of
the City of Renton Utility Deportment and the latest edition of the WSDOT /APWA
Standards and Specifications.
(2) The hours of work in the street right of way shall be limited to 8:30 a.m. to 3:30
p.m. on weekdays unless otherwise approved in writing by the Planning /Building /Public
Works Deportment at 235 -2620. All street closures, partial or full, shall be approved by
the Planning/Building/Public Works Deportment 72 hours in advents. The Police

(12) Open Cut rood crossings for utility trenches on existing traveled roadway shall be

nozzles with Notional Standard Threads 7-1/2 threads per inch and one 4 inch pumper
nozz +es with the new Seattle Pattern 6 threads per inch, 50 depress V. Threads, outside
diameter of mot• tread 4.875 and root diameter 4.6263. Hydrants shall have a 1-1/40
pentagon operating nut opened by turning counter clockwise (left). The two 2-1/2" boss

below finish prods. All water main 12 inches and torpor shill be of a minimum of 48
inches below finish prods. Where utility conflicts occur, water mains are to be lowered to
clear.
(9) All water mains six (6) inches in diameter and larger shaft be cleaned with pipe
cleaning PIGS prior to disinfection. The Poiy Pigs shall be Girard Industries Aqua
Swab -AS or approved equal, Z lb/cu ft. density foam with 90A durometer urethane
rubber coating on the rear of "PIGS only. "PIGS~ shall be cylinder shaped with bullet nose
or square end. The City will assist the Contractor who will perform the cleaning operation.
o) All water mains and services shall be pressers tested to o minimum of 200 PSI or
50 PSI over operating pressers, in accordance with the specifications of the City of
Renton and the Washington Slots Health Deportment. All pressure testing shall be done in
the presents of a representative of the City of Renton. The quantity of water lost from
the mein shall not exceed the number of gallons per hour as listed in City of Renton
Standard Pions ac Specifications 7- 11.3(11). The loss in pressure shall not exceed 5 psi
during the 2 hour test period. b) All water mains and services shall be disinfected by the
injection of o 50 ppm (minimum concentration) chlorins /water solution. Dry Calcium
Hypochlorits shall NOT be placed in the pips as laid. Chlorins shill be metered/injected in
accordance with Section 7- 11.3(12)E or 7- 11.3(12)F of the Standard Specifications
referenced in 1 above.
(10) A preconstruction conference is required prior to any construction. A minimum of 3
three) working days notice is required for scheduling. prior to scheduling the proton o
per, -,it information sheet must be supplied to the Utility Engineer's Office. Twenty -four
