CONSTRUCTION NOTES:
1. ABANDONED AC WATER MAINS SHALL BE FILLED WITH CDF. CONTRACTOR SHALL SUPPLY
TEMPORARY BLOW -OFFS AS NECESSARY TO ENSURE EXISTING PIPE IS COMPLETELY FILLED WITH
CDF. CONTRACTOR SHALL REMOVE UPPER SECTION OF VALVE BOXES ON ALL EXISTING MAINS
THAT ARE BEING ABANDONED.
2. COORDINATE TRANSFER OF SERVICES TO NEW SYSTEM AFTER OWNER ACCEPTANCE OF
PRESSURE AND PURITY TESTS. NEW HYDRANTS MAY BE INSTALLED WITH NEW MAIN, BUT MUST
REMAIN BAGGED UNTIL NEW WATER MAIN HAS BEEN TESTED, PURIFIED, AND PLACED IN SERVICE.
3. NOTE: ALL TRENCH RESTORATION SHALL BE PER CURRENT CITY OF RENTON TRENCH
RESTORATION AND STREET OVERLAY DETAIL. PER SECTION 7 REQUIREMENT FOR PATCHING,
OVERLAY, OVERLAY WIDTHS, 1. TRENCHES (ROAD CROSSINGS) D. IF THE OUTSIDE OF THE
TRENCHING IS WITHIN THREE FEET (3') OF ANY ADJACENT LANE LINE, THE ENTIRE ADJACENT
TRAVELED LANE AFFECTED WILL BE REPAVED.
4. DO NOT REMOVE EXISTING FIRE HYDRANT ASSEMBLIES UNTIL NEW WATER MAIN HAS BEEN IN
SERVICE FOR AT LEAST 24 HOURS. SALVAGE EX. FH ASSYS. TO DISTRICT.
5. INSTALL NEW METER BOXES BEHIND SIDEWALK, UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED. WHERE SIDEWALK IS
DAMAGED, OR EX. METER BOX IS REMOVED, CONTRACTOR SHALL SAW CUT AT JOINTS AND
REPLACE THE ENTIRE CONCRETE SIDEWALK PANEL.
6. WINDOW / POTHOLE AHEAD OF WATER MAIN INSTALLATIONS TO FIND AND AVOID CONFLICTS WITH
EX. GAS, STORM MAIN, AND OTHER UTILITIES WHEN INSTALLING NEW WATER MAIN AND HOGGING
NEW SERVICES.
7. CONTRACTOR SHALL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR COORDINATING WITH PROPERTY OWNERS TO LOCATE
AND TIE INTO EXISTING WATER SERVICE LINES WHERE METER BOXES WILL BE MOVED.
8. COMPLY WITH CITY OF RENTON R.O.W. PERMIT TIME -OF -DAY RESTRICTIONS FOR CONSTRUCTION
IN INTERSECTIONS AND CITY OF RENTON RIGHTS-OF -WAY.
9. IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE CONFLICTS WITH OTHER UTILITIES, THE NEW WATER MAIN SHALL BE
INSTALLED WITH AT LEAST 36 INCHES OF COVER UNLESS INDICATED OTHERWISE.
10. CONTRACTOR SHALL LIMIT THE AMOUNT OF DISTURBED AREA TO THE MINIMAL AMOUNT
NECESSARY TO FACILITATE CONSTRUCTION EFFORTS. ALL DISTURBED AREAS SHALL BE FULLY
RESTORED WITHIN 15 WORKING DAYS AFTER FIRST OPENING THE TRENCH, UNLESS APPROVED
OTHERWISE.
11. CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBLE TO VERIFY LOCATIONS OF THE EXISTING WATER MAINS, WATER
SERVICE LINES, AND METER BOXES PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
12. CDF BACKFILL SHALL BE PROVIDED AT THE EXISTING AC WATER MAIN CROSSINGS WITH THE NEW
WATER MAIN. THE EXISTING AC WATER MAIN SHALL BE BRIDGED AND PROTECTED AS DIRECTED
BY THE DISTRICT DURING THE WATER MAIN CROSSINGS TO PREVENT THE AC WATER MAIN FROM
BEING DAMAGED OR BREAKING.
13. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL VERIFY THE ELEVATION OF THE EXISTING UTILITIES AT ALL CROSSINGS
A MINIMUM OF 3 PIPE LENGTHS EACH DIRECTION PRIOR TO CROSSING LOCATION TO ESTABLISH
NECESSARY VERTICAL AND HORIZONTAL ALIGNMENT ADJUSTMENTS NECESSARY TO MEET THE
REQUIRED CLEARANCE UNLESS NOTED OTHERWISE ON THE DRAWINGS. CONTRACTOR SHALL USE
A MINIMUM NUMBER OF FITTINGS TO CHANGE ALIGNMENT. NEW WATER MAIN SHALL CROSS
UNDER EXISTING UTILITIES UNLESS OTHERWISE NOTED ON THE DRAWINGS. NEW WATER MAIN
SHALL CROSS ABOVE THE EXISTING SANITARY SEWER MAIN & SIDE SEWER STUBS.
14. WHERE THE WATER MAIN IS LOCATED IN THE ROADWAY, AND ASPHALT RESTORATION IS SHOWN
AS AC PATCH ON TESC AND PAVING PLAN, THE CONTRACTOR SHALL KEEP ALL ROADWAY
DISTURBANCE OUTSIDE THE TRAVELED LANE (12' FROM CENTERLINE OF EXISTING ASPHALT OR
OUTSIDE THE FOG LINE). ANY ROADWAY DAMAGE INSIDE THE TRAVELED LANE WILL BE THE
RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO REPAIR TO THE CITY OF RENTON'S ROAD STANDARDS.
15. THE LOCATIONS OF BURIED GAS, STORM MAIN, POWER, TELEPHONE AND TV CABLE SHOWN ON
THESE PLANS ARE APPROXIMATE AND ARE BASED ON THE BEST AVAILABLE CONSTRUCTION
RECORD DRAWING AND SURVEYED INFORMATION. CONTRACTOR IS RESPONSIBLE TO
COORDINATE WITH UTILITY PURVEYORS AND VERIFY THE LOCATION OF THE EXISTING UTILITIES
PRIOR TO CONSTRUCTION.
16. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL PROTECT THE EXISTING AC WATER MAIN DURING THE NEW WATER MAIN
INSTALLATION. ANY BREAKS OF THE EXISTING AC WATER MAIN DURING THE NEW WATER MAIN
INSTALLATION WILL BE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE CONTRACTOR TO REPAIR.
17. CONTRACTOR RESPONSIBLE TO COORDINATE WITH SCWSD & CITY OF RENTON FOR PROTECTION
AND RESTORATION OF EXISTING STORM SEWERS, SANITARY SEWER MAINS, MANHOLES AND S.S.
STUBS DURING CONSTRUCTION.
18. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE OR REPLACE ALL EXISTING FENCES REMOVED /DAMAGED AS
PART OF THE WATER MAIN INSTALLATION TO PRE - EXISTING OR BETTER CONDITION, AND IN THE
SAME LOCATION.
19. THE CONTRACTOR SHALL RESTORE OR REPLACE ALL EXISTING LANDSCAPING DISTURBED AS
PART OF WATER MAIN INSTALLATION TO PRE - EXISTING OR BETTER CONDITION.
20. ALL WORK AND MATERIAL WITHIN RIGHT- OF -WAY IS SUBJECT TO CITY OF RENTON RIGHT -OF -WAY
CONSTRUCTION PERMIT.
21. CONTRACTOR SHALL COORDINATE WITH UNITED STATES POSTAL SERVICE TO ENSURE MAIL
DELIVERY CONTINUES DURING CONSTRUCTION.
22. CONTRACTOR SHALL MARK LOCATION OF ALL BENDS, TEES, SERVICES AND FIRE HYDRANTS IN
THE FIELD A MINIMUM OF TWO (2) WORKING DAYS IN ADVANCE. ITEMS NOT LABELED WITH
STATION AND OFFSET SHALL BE LOCATED AS REQUIRED IN THE FIELD.
23. FINAL FIRE HYDRANT LOCATION SUBJECT TO CITY OF RENTON FIRE MARSHAL PERMIT.
24. ANY EDGE OF TRENCH THAT PARALLELS CURBING SHALL NOT BE WITHIN 2' OF FRONT EDGE OR
BACK OF CURB.
25. DRIVEWAY APPROACHES THAT ARE DISTURBED SHALL BE REPLACED TO CURRENT ADA
STANDARDS.
26. SIDEWALK RESTORATION SHALL BE REPLACE IN KIND, EXCEPT FOR PEDESTRIAN CROSSING
WHICH SHALL BE RESTORED TO CURRENT ADA STANDARDS.
27. IF EXISTING ASPHALT IS GREATER THAN 4" IN ROADBED MATCH EXISTING UNLESS OTHERWISE
DIRECTED BY CITY OF RENTON INSPECTOR.
28. MAINTAIN MINIMUM STANDARD CITY OF RENTON SEPARATION BETWEEN UTILITIES:
HORIZONTAL 51, VERTICAL 120. INSTALL ETHAFOAM CUSHION IF THE VERTICAL SEPARATION
BETWEEN CITY UTILITY PIPES AND WATER MAIN AT CROSSINGS IS LESS THAN 12 INCHES.
29. NO STAGING OF EQUIPMENT OR STOCKPILING IN PUBLIC RIGHT -OF -WAY WITHOUT WRITTEN
PERMISSION FROM THE CITY OF RENTON.
30. ALL VALVES AND MANHOLES SHALL COMPLY WITH CITY OF RENTON STD. PLAN 400.4 UTILITY
COVER ADJUSTMENT FOR PAVEMENT OR OVERLAY, AND STD. PLAN 330.1 VALVE BOX, MARKER, &
OPERATING NUT EXTENSION.
31. SPU WILL OBSERVE CONSTRUCTION THAT IS NEAR OR OVER ITS LARGE PIPE LINES. CONTRACTOR
SHALL CONTACT WAYNE SMITH AT 206 - 684 -3833 AT LEAST 72 HOURS BEFORE WORKING NEAR THE
PIPES. CONTRACTOR SHALL TRENCH BY VACUUM EXCAVATION.
WATER GENERAL NOTES:
1. ALL WORK SHALL BE PERFORMED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE SPECIFICATIONS OF SOOS
CREEK WATER AND SEWER DISTRICT, ALSO REFERRED TO HEREINAFTER AS "DISTRICT."
2. EXISTING UTILITIES ARE SHOWN FROM THE BEST AVAILABLE INFORMATION AND NO
GUARANTEE IS MADE AS TO THE EXACT SIZE, TYPE, LOCATION OR DEPTHS.
3. ALL WORK IN CITY OF RENTON RIGHT -OF -WAY SHALL CONFORM WITH THE REQUIREMENTS
OF THE CITY OF RENTON STANDARDS AND CITY OF RENTON RIGHT -OF -WAY
CONSTRUCTION PERMIT; SEE SPECIFICATIONS.
4. FIRE HYDRANTS SHALL BE EQUIPPED WITH STEAMER AND HOSE PORT THREADS IN
ACCORDANCE WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF THE CITY OF RENTON FIRE AND EMERGENCY
SERVICES DEPARTMENT.
5. WATER MAIN SHALL PASS UNDER STORM SEWER WHEN REQUIRED TO MAINTAIN THIRTY -SIX
INCHES MINIMUM COVER OVER TOP OF WATER MAIN. THERE SHALL BE NOT LESS THAN A
SIX -INCH ETHAFOAM CUSHION BETWEEN THE WATER MAIN AND THE STORM SEWER.
6. FOR SINGLE SERVICE CONNECTION, CONNECT PLASTIC SERVICE PIPE DIRECTLY TO ANGLE
STOP WITH COMPRESSION PACK JOINT.
7. WATER SERVICES CONNECTION DETAILS:
A. HDPE METER BOXES WILL BE FURNISHED AND INSTALLED BY CONTRACTOR.
B. INSTALL CARSON LID MARKED "WATER ".
8. WHERE PLASTIC PIPE OR SERVICES ARE USED, INSTALL 16 GAUGE COPPER, PLASTIC - COATED
TRACER WIRE ALONG TOP OF PIPE. ATTACH WIRE TO VALVES AND HYDRANTS; FOR
SERVICES, ATTACH TRACER WIRE TO ANGLE STOP AND SADDLE.
9. ALL SERVICE LINES SHALL BE ONE -INCH MINIMUM, AND SHALL BE CONTINUOUS AND
UNSPLICED FROM CORP STOP TO METER AND SHALL HAVE SAND BEDDING (6" ALL AROUND).
10. CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE DISTRICT AT (253) 630 -9900 TO SCHEDULE A
PRE - CONSTRUCTION MEETING AT THE DISTRICT OFFICE. AFTER THE PRE - CONSTRUCTION
MEETING THE CONTRACTOR SHALL NOTIFY THE CONSTRUCTION REVIEW REPRESENTATIVE
FOR THE DISTRICT AT LEAST 48 HOURS (REGULAR WORKING DAYS) BEFORE STARTING
WORK.
11. BEFORE ORDERING MATERIALS FOR CONNECTION TO EXISTING WATER MAIN, CONTRACTOR
SHALL EXCAVATE WATER MAIN AND VERIFY O.D. FOR DETERMINATION OF TYPES OF
FITTINGS TO BE USED. COORDINATE WITH THE CONSTRUCTION REVIEW REPRESENTATIVE
FOR THE DISTRICT.
12. THIS WATER MAIN PLAN IS SUBJECT TO THE CONSTRUCTION PERMITS ISSUED BY CITY OF
RENTON FOR THIS PROJECT. A FINAL INSPECTION IS REQUIRED FOR APPROVAL OF THESE
PERMITS. CALL (425) 430 -7203 FORTY EIGHT HOURS (48) IN ADVANCE TO SCHEDULE AN
ON -SITE INSPECTION.
13. THE WATER MAIN SHALL BE "CUBED" (I.E. PIGGED) PRIOR TO ACCEPTANCE ACCORDING TO
THE DISTRICT'S REQUIREMENTS.
