OLt.oGc, ,
Seattle, Nov, 15, 1904.
Mr, Sidney Williams, Corporation Counsel
for the town of Renton.
Dear Sir:—There was delivered to me
this morning, as coming from you, an ac-
cusation and severe reprimand, on the
ground that the City of Seattle had broken
faith with the town of Renton and had
proceeded to erect poles and stretch wires
in the town of Renton prior to the grant-
ing of the franchise therefor. In response
to this I wash to say: Your charge and re-
primand are entirely unjustified by the
facts. We have kept absolute faith with V
the town of Renton, and the poles which
have been erected against our will, by the
Snoqualmie Company, on a portion of the
right of way which we wish as ouy, own,
viz, along Renton Avenue, and we insist,
that in fairness to the City of Seattle, that
the officers of the town of Renton require
the Snoqualmie people to relinquish any
and all claims to any poles which they
have set on Renton Avenue, as those poles
materially interfere with the proposed lines
of the City of Seattle. I want this clearly
understood and I most seriouslybject to
,r having blame thrown upon either myself or
any officer of the City, when we have been
absolutely square.
Very truly yours
R. 1-I. THOMPSON,
City Engineer.
e/;y
To the Board of Public Works of the City
of Seattle.
Gentlemen—At a meeting of the Council
of the Town of Renton held Tuesday eve-I
ning Nov, 15, 1904, the franchise asked
by the City of Seattle for the erection of
a pole line through the limits of the Town'
of Renton was rejected.
By reason of the nature of the franchise,
asked for, it is the judgment of this Coun-
cil that the Town of Renton is entitled to
some concessions in exchange and in order
that the matter may be properly taken up,
a committee of this, Council has been ap-
pointed to confer with the members of the
Council,of the City of Seattle and present
a definite proposition which we deem to
be equitable.
