FINAL GRADING SHOULD BE COMPLETED BY MACHINERY OPERATING ON A PRELIMINARY SUBGRADE THAT IS AT LEAST 12 INCHES HIGHER THAN FINAL GRADE OR STRUCTURES TO DISTRIBUTE EQUIPMENT LOAD (e.g., STEEL PLATES OR AGGREGATE BASE MATERIAL). FINAL EXCAVATION THEN PROCEEDS AS MACHINERY IS PULLING BACK AND TRAVELING ON PRELIMINARY GRADE AS FINAL GRADE IS EXCAVATED. 2. TO PREVENT COMPACTION WHEN INSTALLING THE AGGREGATE BASE, THE FOLLOWING STEPS (BACK -DUMPING) SHOULD BE FOLLOWED: (1) - THE AGGREGATE DISCHARGE BASE IS DUMPED ONTO THE SUBGRADE FROM THE EDGE OF THE INSTALLATION AND AGGREGATE IS THEN PUSHED OUT ONTO THE SUBGRADE. (2) - TRUCKS THEN DUMP SUBSEQUENT LOADS FROM ON TOP OF THE AGGREGATE BASE AS THE INSTALLATION PROGRESSES. 3. AVOID SUBGRADE PREPARATION DURING THE WET SEASON (SOIL COMPACTION INCREASES SIGNIFICANTLY IS SOIL IS WET). 4. IF MACHINERY (RECOMMENDED LGP EQUIPMENT) MUST ACCESS THE FINAL GRADE, LIMIT THE ACCESS TO A SPECIFIC TRAVEL WAY THAT CAN BE TILLED BEFORE APPLICATION OF THE BASE AGGREGATE OR PLACE HEAVY STEEL PLATES ON SUBGRADE AND LIMIT TRAFFIC TO THE PROTECTIVE COVER. 5. NOTE: ALLOWING HEAVY MACHINERY ON PERMEABLE PAVING SUBGRADES DURING WET OR SATURATED CONDITIONS WILL RESULT IN DEEP COMPACTION (OFTEN 3 FEET) AND CANNOT BE COMPENSATED FOR BY SHALLOW TILLING OR RIPPING SOIL. } f s END ROAD IMPROVEMENTS STA, 2+53.16 TOP 203.0 - ....- - TOE ZD1.0 - 27' RIGHT OF WAY DEDICATION TOP 209.2- TOE 203.5 /77/// TOP 209.2 O TOE 203.3 EX. APPROPRIATE DESIGN, CONSTRUCTION AND MAINTENANCE MEASURES WILL BE REQUIRED TO ENSURE THE INFILTRATION RATE CAN BE EFFECTIVELY MAINTAINED OVER TIME. IT SHOULD BE NOTED THAT SPECIAL CARE IS REQUIRED DURING THE GRADING AND CONSTRUCTION PERIODS TO AVOID FINE SEDIMENT CONTAMINATION OF THE INFILTRATION SYSTEM. THIS MAY BE ACCOMPLISHED BY USING AN ALTERNATIVE STORM WATER MANAGEMENT LOCATION DURING GRADING AND CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES. ALL CONTRACTORS WORKING ON THE SITE (BUILDERS AND SUBCONTRACTORS) SHOULD BE ADVISED TO AVOID "DIRTY" STORMWATER FLOWING TO THE SITE'S STORMWATER SYSTEM DURING CONSTRUCTION AND LANDSCAPING ACTIVITIES AT THE SITE. CONCRETE TRUCKS SHOULD NOT BE WASHED OR CLEANED ON-SITE. SUSPENDED SOLIDS COULD CLOG THE UNDERLYING SOIL AND REDUCE THE INFILTRATION RATE FOR THE SYSTEM. TO REDUCE POTENTIAL CLOGGING OF THE INFILTRATION SYSTEMS, THE INFILTRATION SYSTEM SHOULD NOT BE CONNECTED TO THE STORMWATER RUNOFF SYSTEM UNTIL AFTER CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE AND THE SITE AREA IS LANDSCAPED, PAVED OR OTHERWISE PROTECTED. TEMPORARY SYSTEMS MAY BE UTILIZED THROUGH CONSTRUCTION. PERIODIC SWEEPING OF THE PAVED AREAS WILL HELP EXTEND THE LIFE OF THE INFILTRATION SYSTEM. Geotechnical Infiltration Letter, June 3, 2014 Springhill, LLC, Kennvda|e Vue Point, January 28, 2015 The following design assumptions were used: |n1arno| angle of friction for reinforced soil = 32 degrees (assumed for grid sizing) Unit weight ofreinforced soil = 125 pof Maximum wall height = 10.0 feet Batter of vva|| = 1 H : 24V Surcharge = Traffic Surcharge TECHNICAL SPECIFICATIONS FOR MECHANICALLY STABILIZED LOCK & LOAD RETAINING WALLS GENERAL: A. The work involves the supply and installation of soil reinforced retaining vva||m. The work will |no|uda, but is not |irni1od to: A-1 excavation to the grades shown on the civil drawings A'2 supply and installation ofAeogrid reinforcement A-3 supply and installation of drainage fill and piping A'4 supply and installation of segmental StoneTerra Blocks A-5 supply and installation of retained and reinforced soil fill B. The vvo||s shall be installed on undisturbed Native Soils approved by geohaohnoia| engineer. MATERIALS A. Geogrid - See Geogrid Schedule. B. Drainage Fill ' Drainage Fill placed around and above the perforated drainage pipe shall consist of 1-1/4 inch Clean Rook (no fines). C. Reinforced Backfill ' Fill material shall consist of a granular material with fines not exceeding 15 pen:ent, unless approved by the Geotechnical Emginoer. D. Leveling Pod - Leveling Pad rneteha| shall consist of 5/8 inch Crushed Rook material. EXECUTION A. Contractor shall excavate to the lines and grades shown on the construction drawings, The Geotechnical Engineer should observe the excavation prior to the placement of the leveling nnoierie| or fill soils. B. Over -excavation of deleterious soils shall be replaced with suitable granular material and compacted to 95% of ASTM [l-1557 (Modified Proctor). C. The first course of wall materials (StonaTerra) shall be placed on the Leveling Pad and the alignment and level checked. D. VVa|| materials shall be placed with the tops level and parallel tothe wall face. E. Geogrid shall be oriented with the highest strength axis perpendicular to the vva|| alignment. F Geogrid reinforcement shall be placed at the levels and to the lengths shown on the drawings, G. The geoghd shall be laid horizontally in the direction perpendicular to the face of the retaining vva||. The geogrid shall be pulled taut, free of vvrinh|oa and anchored prior to backfill placement on the geogrid. H. The geoghd reinforcement shall be continuous throughout their embedment lengths. Spliced connection between shorter pieces of Qeogrid is not permitted. |. The drainage pipe discharge points ahe|| be connected to approved discharge. J. Reinforced and Retained Backfill shall be p|aoed, apnsed and compacted in such a manner that minimizes the development of slack in the googrid. K. Reinforced and Retained Backfill shall be placed and compacted in lifts not to exceed 8 inches where hand compaction equipment is used and not more than 12 inches where heavy compaction equipment is used. Hand operated compaction equipment (700 lbs. to 1,000 lbs.) Vibratory Plate ohe|| be used to compact interface of drainage fill and reinforced backfill within 38" zone behind concrete facing. L. Reinforced and Retained Backfill shall be compacted to 8596 of the maximum density as determined by ASTM [)-1557-B1 (Modified Proctor) or equivalent. The moisture content of the backfill material prior to and during compaction shall be uniformly distributed throughout each layer and shall be within 2 percentage points of the optimum moisture content. M. Hand -operated equipment (700 lbs. to 1.000 lbs. Vibratory Plate) shall only be used within 38 inches of the back face of the concrete facing. N. Tracked construction equipment shall not be operated directly upon the Qeogrid reinforcement. A rninirnurn fill thickness of B inches is required prior to operation of tracked vehicles over the geogrid. C}. Rubber tired equipment may pass over the geogrid reinforcement at m|ovv speeds less than 5 mph. Sudden braking and sharp turning aho|| be avoided. P. At the end of each day of operadon, the contractor shall slope the last lift of reinforced backfill away from the vve|| units to direct runoff away from the vva|| face. The contractor shall not o||ovv surface runoff from adjacent areas to enter the vva|| construction site. Guardrail (As Required) ( By Others) 3'Min.
