RESOLUTION NO. 3581
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
AUTHORIZING THE MAYOR AND CITY CLERK TO ENTER INTO AN
AGREEMENT FOR REGIONAL DISASTER PLANNING FOR PUBLIC
AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS IN KING COUNTY.
WHEREAS, King County is 2,134 square miles of diverse terrain with almost 1.7
million people, 39 cities, and over 100 special purpose districts; and
WHEREAS, King County is vulnerable to floods, earthquakes, severe weather,
hazardous materials releases, transportation accidents, volcanic activity, and terrorist activities;
and
WHEREAS, because of its population density, complex system of governance, and
significant risks, there is a need for a coordinated response among pubhc and private entities in
the County; and
WHEREAS, a Regional Disaster Plan for pubhc and private organizations in King County
would provide a framework needed to weave together the emergency response plans of a wide
range of organizations; and
WHEREAS, such a Regional Disaster Plan would allow potentially hundreds of entities
to behave in a coordinated manner following a major event; and
WHEREAS, as of May 30, 2002, there were 65 signatories to the Regional Disaster Plan;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The above findings are true and correct in all respects.
RESOLUTION NO. 3581
SECTION II. The Mayor and City Clerk are hereby authorized to enter into the
Regional Disaster Plan for pubhc and private organizations in King County.
