HomeMy WebLinkAboutRES 3434CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON RESOLUTION NO. 3434 A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, OPPOSING THE PROPOSAL TO REROUTE AIR TRAFFIC FROM SEATTLE-TACOMA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT OVER RENTON. WHEREAS, there has been advanced a proposal to reroute air traffic from Seattle- Tacoma International Airport over the east side of Renton; and WHEREAS, such rerouting of air traffic would result in more noise for Renton residents; and WHEREAS, rerouting the air traffic would require low altitude 180 degree turns which are less safe than current turning movements; and WHEREAS, the low altitude 180 degree turns also require higher thrust levels on the engines, resulting in greater engine noise than the current turning movements; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton's own airport already creates a level of aircraft noise, particularly when the Boeing aircraft manufactured in Renton are flown out of the Renton Municipal Airport; and WHEREAS, the City of Renton additionally experiences considerable airport noise from flights leaving the King County Regional Airport (Boeing Field), with a particularly high degree of noise being experienced when 727 air freighters, which are not retrofitted with hush kits, fly out of the King County Regional Airport; NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and correct in all respects. 1 RESOLUTION NO. 3434 SECTION II. The City Council is opposed to the plan to reroute air traffic from Seattle-Tacoma International Airport over Renton and authorizes the Mayor and Administration to convey and promote this position.
