CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON
RESOLUTION NO. 2791
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
RECOMMENDING ADDITIONS TO THE KING COUNTY SOLID WASTE
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN.
WHEREAS, the King County Solid Waste Division has prepared a
master plan entitled "The King County Comprehensive Solid Waste
Management Plan" which sets programs and goals for waste
reduction/recycling and solid waste handling and disposal in King
County; and
WHEREAS, the city of Renton approves the King County
Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan by Ordinance No. 4265
in accordance with state statutes for the preparation of
comprehensive solid waste management plans; and
WHEREAS, the city of Renton, consistent with its aggressive
policies on waste reduction and recycling, believes that the plan
contains issues that need to be more aggressively addressed.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The City Council believes that aggressive
governmental efforts are necessary to create an economic market
value for recycled materials . The city recommends and advocates
that King County provide leadership for a county-wide program to
create and improve the economic return on recycled materials . Such
marketing is necessary to provide financial stability and success

to the regional recycling programs and to achieve our goals for
waste reduction and recycling.
SECTION III. The city of Renton recommends the development
of a county-wide comprehensive plan for the long-term handling of
construction waste and demolition debris that assures development
of facilities for the proper recycling and environmentally sound
disposal of these wastes .
SECTION IV. The city of Renton recommends that King County
prepare accurate estimates of the additional staffing requirements
and program costs for suburban cities to implement the waste
reduction and recycling programs specified in the King County
Comprehensive Solid Waste Management Plan and provide grants and
technical assistance to cities for the initiation of such programs .
