AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, AMENDING
SUBSECTIONS 4-23-3.B AND 4-23-8.B OF CHAPTER 23,
UNDERGROUND INSTALLATION OF UTILITY LINES, OF TITLE IV
(BUILDING REGULATIONS), OF ORDINANCE NO. 4260 ENTITLED
"CODE OF GENERAL ORDINANCES OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON" TO ALLOW REBUILDS OF EXISTING OVERHEAD
SERVICES AND SERVICE ENTRANCE FACILITIES IN SINGLE-FAMILY
RESIDENCES WITHOUT AN INDIVIDUAL VARIANCE.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON, DO ORDAIN
AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. Subsection 4-23-3.B of Chapter 23, Underground
Installation of Utility Lines, of Title IV (Building Regulations),
of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the
City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows:
4-23-3,B: Services: All new electric or communication services
from an overhead or underground facility to service connections of
structures shall be installed underground from and after the
effective date of this Chapter. All rebuilt or relocated electric
or communication services from an overhead or underground facility
to service connections of structures shall be installed underground
from and after the effective date of this Chapter, except (1) those
services which only involve a change in the overhead service line
without a change in the corresponding service entrance facilities,
and (2) services feeding overhead to existing single-family
residences may be rebuilt or enlarged.
SECTION II. Subsection 4-23-8.B of Chapter 23, Underground
Installation of Utility Lines, of Title IV (Building Regulations),

of Ordinance No. 4260 entitled "Code of General Ordinances of the
City of Renton, Washington" is hereby amended to read as follows:
4-23-8.B: Enforcement Officer: The City Planning/Building/Public
Works Administrator or his or her designated representative shall
be responsible for investigation of violations and citation of the
violating parties.
SECTION III. This Ordinance shall be effective upon its
passage, approval, and thirty days after its publication.
