RESOLUTION NO. 3260
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON IN
SUPPORT OF THE TRANSIT CENTER SITE SELECTION
WHEREAS, the City of Renton' s Comprehensive Plan, adopted in
1995, contains a Transit Element that focuses on improving Renton
transit service; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton' s Comprehensive Plan Transit
Element also identified objectives and policies that encourage
the development of and use of alternatives to single occupancy
vehicles; and
WHEREAS, the goal of the City of Renton' s Comprehensive Plan
Transit Element has policy directions calling for the
establishment of a multi-modal transit center in downtown Renton;
and
WHEREAS, locating a transit center in downtown Renton will
work to provide the City with a multi-modal destination focus
within the City core; and
WHEREAS, locating a transit center within the City' s
downtown core will also assist in providing the downtown area
with a pedestrian-supportive activity area; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton has entered into an interlocal
agreement with King County Department of Transportation to select
a site and develop a transit operational scheme; and

WHEREAS, the City of Renton established ' a citizens Transit
Advisory Board to advise the City in transit 'related activities,
including development of the Transit Center; and
WHEREAS, the City of Renton, working with the King County
Department of Transportation and the citizen' s Transit Advisory
Board, has identified a site and potential operational schemes
for the Transit Center; and
WHEREAS, the City is committed to building a transit center
that is classic in design, enduring in appearance and function,
and provides the City with a strong positive visual image; and
WHEREAS, the City wants to work cooperatively with the King
County Department of Transportation and other current or future
transit service providers to develop a transit center and to
provide transit service to the City; and
WHEREAS, formal identification of a transit center site is a
requirement of the funding agencies to allow for release of the
initial design funds and to shift the budget from the planning. to
the design and construction phase;
NOW, THEREFORE , THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS :
SECTION I . The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II . The Mayor and City Council find that the
development of a transit center in downtown Renton is of great
value to the community and the project supports economic

development. The City of Renton approves and authorizes locating
a transit center on and adjacent to Burnett Avenue South between
South 2nd and South 3rd Streets, subject to confirmation of bus
capacity requirements, especially for . the Regional Transit
Authority bus routes, as well as to applicable development and
environmental regulation.
SECTION III . To fully involve the Mayor and the City
Council in the development of the Final Transit Center, all
proposed urban design urban design elements will be brought
before the Council for review and approval throughout the
process .
