RESOLUTION NO. 2902
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY OF RENTON, WASHINGTON,
SUPPORTING FAMILIES AND HUMAN SERVICES RELATED PROGRAMS
AND SUPPORTING LEGISLATION TO EXTEND AUTHORITY FOR SEVEN
COUNTIES TO IMPOSE A 0.1 PERCENT INCREASED SALES TAX.
WHEREAS, strong, healthy families are essential to maintaining
thriving communities; and
WHEREAS, families throughout Washington are facing increasing
social and economic pressure; and
WHEREAS, efforts to support families can avoid costly personal
and community losses by preventing abuse, neglect, homelessness,
domestic violence, and welfare dependence; and

WHEREAS, local government"§ in Ring County have effectively
joined their collective voices on family support issues in
recognition of the importance of these concerns to the strength of
our communities .
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF RENTON,
WASHINGTON, DO RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The above recitals are found to be true and
correct in all respects .
SECTION II. The City of Renton supports efforts and
legislation to preserve, enhance, and increase low-income and
affordable housing, including increased permanent funding for the
Housing Trust Fund.

SECTION III. The City of Renton supports efforts and
legislation to maintain elements of the Pamily Independence Program
such as child care, education and job training, and health care
coverage which have been shown by evaluations to help permanently
end the need for welfare benefits .
SECTION IV. The City of Renton supports efforts and
legislation to extend existing authority for seven counties to
impose 0. 1 percent increased sales tax for criminal justice
purposes, including domestic Violence community advocates who form
a critical piece of an effective coordinated response to this
epidemic of violence in our cities .
